Pretty shitty coverage, don’t you think? I know why he was signed. But a third string keeper who’s the starting keeper on a CONCACAF national team side just means having a guy on the roster who’s always going to gone when you need him.
I'm not sure they expected pat to be in the senior NT picture yet. Turner falling was a little unexpected. Steffen lasted a little longer and still kept a champo job, before falling into the Marianas trench due to his back and knee maladies.
In that case No-brainer protected (12):Cucho, Rossi, Nagbe, Moreira, Farsi, Arfsten, Dejuan Jones,Amundsen, Cheberko, Camacho, Ramírez and Chambost provided Nagbe doesn’t retire or we have plans to sell Farsi (both seem unlikely) or anyone else. That would leave the following available: Bush, Hagen, Romero, Derrick Jones, Yeboah, Mățan, Hinestroza, Definitely would give San Diego Yeboah in a trade for what is the minimum MLS will allow in order for them to not take anyone else.
Players who’s contract end the following year are often extended a new contract. It’s smart to never let them test free agency if they are a valued commodity. Also we have a few guys who contracts do expire this year but most of them have options. Expire 24 with no options: Bush- give him a 1 year min deal if he wants to play one more and is healthy. Alex Mățan- his stats are down, his level of play is inconsistent so 450k is a bit much so I think he is gone so he can go somewhere with more minutes available. His u22 status is gone so unless he takes a pay cut to stay here which is unlikely. Than I think both sides move on in their own best interest. Expire 24 but with options : Hagen 24- option 25&26 Romero 24- option 25 Schulte 24-25 option or guaranteed ? Hughes 24- option 25&26 Yaw 24- option 25 Arfsten 24- option 25&26 AZ Jackson 24- option 25&26 Ramírez 24- option for 25 JRR 24- option for 25&26 Nagbe, Moreira, Derrick Jones , Cucho all have expiring contracts in 25 but who have options for 26. Cucho I would give him a pay raise just to extend him. Won’t hurt the cap and Idk if he is already a top5 paid DP but if he isn’t make it happen. Nagbe I would either decline and give a new TAM level contract just under DP level or extend him at a lower rate. Derrick Jones I would let his contract play out his salary is fine for a back up. Schulte definitely extend him, he isn’t ready for Europe and he needs to make more money because he has earned it. I know we have him till 2025 under his adidas contract but not sure if it’s a option year or not but just the pay the kid. Camacho -has his contract expire after 25 and at his age I would give him 1 year deal each year. So no need to extend him. Hagen- I think he was a insurance starter incase we sold Schulte. That’s not likely to happen. San Diego should definitely target him. I like him but having two keepers miss significant time at the same time is odd. Romero- everyone is mad at him but maybe after Saturday he is going to redeem himself. We still have the same keeper issues next year so I would keep him. Hughes- he is going to get contract declined Yaw - Would love to trade him to SD but if not we need to decline his option and move on Arfsten - deserves a better contract but it’s a good deal for us. AZ Jackson - Don’t give up on him yet u less he doesn’t want to be here Ramírez - good option off the bench , I wouldn’t extend him but I would keep him until I found that guy who will be the 3rd starter up top. Even then if he wants to be here he is a good player to have on the bench. JRR- needs to develop he is on a good deal for us we should keep him around
AZ Jackson was acquired for 650k plus 250k in performance bonuses. Which got me thinking about JRR. JRR is almost exactly a year younger than AZ and has more experience. If Columbus trades JRR in the offseason, do you see the Crew getting more allocation money for JRR than they did to acquire AZ?
No, I think we overpaid for AZ but we paid for potential and it’s hard that put a price tag on that. We have turned down offers for JRR reportedly. I don’t think we sell him to a MLS side. Now if someone overpays for him then we definitely could sell him. But hard to say what number the Crew believe he is worth.
I still can not get over that play by Romero. It was ridiculously bad. That said, okay let's see how he does on Saturday. I agree, I hope he redeems himself.
Though, wouldn't it be hilarious if we are in the same situation this Saturday (as we were against Seattle), without a backup keeper, and Romero gets red carded again? I mean, it would be kind of funny.
Maybe if it’s a totally bogus call and we still win. But not really funny kid would be cleaning his locker out immediately if he gets another deserved red. Who would play keeper ? Arfsten ?
No. No, no, no, no, no. Not if he came for ten dollars. Not if HE paid to come here. Not in a million years.
Nah. He quit actually caring about the sport a long time ago. He’s injury prone, I’d imagine not playing for 18 months would only make it worse. He’ll sign for PSG and be their new has-been ‘star’ that sticks around just for the money and jogs around the field while looking bored AF. Pass.
Have we heard about Moreira yet? He's been starting for Cabo Verde, so you'd certainly assume he'll be there for their games on Thursday and Tuesday.
yes he is injured so Cape Verde and the crew said it would be best to not select him, per the dispatch
Romero looked halfway decent until that challenge. But he was amped all game. Never seen a keeper do jumping Jack's while his own team was in possession. Might be a mental issue and not a skill one that has kept him from going up the ladder. Kinda like young David Ochoa
I am 100% with Bill on this one. Though the thought of an engaged, full effort Pogba, on this team, is exhilirating. Sadly, I just don't think that guy exists anymore. If we could do it for sub DP money, MAYBE? But I do not think he'd be willing to do that.
Risk reward , you can cancel one contract per year so why not take a gamble ? Unless we find a solid younger CM prospect this winter i would be willing to try it
Everyone said Suarez was done when he went to Miami. He seems to be doing pretty well down there. It’s hard to write off a dude who is only 31 years old.
