I think its a really big miss if we don't get a new #6 in this window. It's clearly the weak spot in the starting 11.
The injury bug can bite at any time. We’ve been lucky. Players go into slumps. We really don’t know with certainty that Cucho is staying. Smart, well thought out decisions should be made, sure. But leaving roster spots open just seems ill advised
If Cincinnati can flip Boupa for someone decent, then I'd wager their attack is the best in the league. I wonder how Noonan will approach the rest of the year, will he be as conservative or go all attack. (Actually it might be LAG with the best attack and then LAFC if they get Griezman.) I think we need another attacker, hopefully someone physical but a good workrate. As for the 6, I would really like one but feel we need to get it right, so don't force a transfer. Either way, we can only add one more player for the league's Cup or just not register Herrera.
The team says that he's an "attacker" and he calls himself " a very offensive player" who "likes to attack a lot." Argentine Attacker 🇦🇷#Crew96 | #VamosColumbus pic.twitter.com/IQD64Qtp0g— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) August 6, 2024
The graphic said “defender”, he’s wearing #2 (a traditional right back number), and he played right back for River. Man is an attacking right back, maybe wing back.
Well i hope they have a plan , if they worry about anything that’s a bad sign. As a fan we can worry sure but I still don’t recommend it. Have faith and hope we make the right moves.
Hearing the FO has gotten offers North of 20mil for Cucho. League wants us to hold onto him, but man that’s a lot of money.
That had to be one of the most agonizing losses ever at the U-20 cup. The US is killing off the clock, the announcers several times said the game must be over but it just went on until Mexico scored an equalizer in the 7th of the extra 5 minutes. Then he blew the end of regulation as soon as the ball was kicked off. Habroune did go down in added time so it wasn't a ridiculous amount of time added. Then just before PKs, a Mexican header across the goal sailed in and the US was gutted.
I'm starting to see something with Jones. Thought he was really good against Aston Villa. He's a little slow with his reactions and shoulder checks, but I can see why so many coaches give him a chance. Watching Nashville continue to struggle. I wonder if Godoy is available. He's probably the third or fourth best 6 in the conference. Nashville could be sellers. They are sitting on a few Shaffleberg offers. Could see Berhalter coaching disciple BJ wanting to keep a good 6.
I completely agree with you that we still have the best attacking 3 in the league. Doesn't meant that CR17 isn't old and cucho is likely to leave this off season. We should be pre investing in offense like we have for wing back especially since we can buy down nagbe or add two u22s
A Hinestroza-like U-22 signing - one that lived up to its potential - would fit the bill perfectly. It has a tiny salary cap hit, and basically just requires ownership to pay a hefty transfer fee out of pocket. Of course, the secret is finding that young, still developing talent who isn’t already on some other club’s discovery list and who’ll play for a TAM eligible contract. The Crew’s record of finding/signing this type of player hasn’t been great (Matan, Hinestroza, I’d include the Diaz, Young DP signing since it predated the U-22 rule). But other teams have been successful.
Reading up a bit on Andres Herrera, his nickname is "El Yacaré" or, "The Alligator" which is pretty cool
Nancy can get the most out of guys if the desire is there. He is a avg DM who would start on bad teams and be a back up on good teams. But I do think he could play CB and be a beast if he really truly bought into it.
Zelarayans nickname was " the Chinese" but that didn't travel well. Maybe "Alligator" has some legs. Albeit short ones.
Why and how would “the league” do that? Is Don Garber suddenly invested in Columbus’ success? MLS doesn’t have a track record of somehow involving itself in transfers out. Technically, I don’t think the league has any say in the matter.
So Ive got the LAFC game from last month on in the background as Im working today. And I just gotta put this out there-Steven Moreira is a total freak. He led 2 different counters in the first 10 minutes, carrying the ball forward basically playing as a central attacking midfielder. A couple minutes later hes out on the wing, whipping in dangerous crosses. Then hes cutting in to the middle, beating guys off the dribble. All of this playing as a right center back and locking up Bouanga. Its really quite jaw dropping. Anyway, I think the Crew might have cloned Moreira by bringing in DeJuan Jones? If Nancy does decide to play Jones as a left center back, and now teams have to contend with both of these freaks who ostensibly should be sitting back and just defending but instead are playing 4 different positions at the same time? Forget it. Its going to be way too much for anybody in this league to handle.
It’s a possibility but we just don’t know what Nancy, Jones & Tall talked about. Moreira is a very strong player it’s almost impossible to move him off the ball. He is not fast enough to do what Farsi does which is why he fits better at RCB. Jones however is faster and smaller 165 lbs. Amundsen plays CB but is like 179 lbs. This is why I think while Jones could help at LCB & RCB. He will play mostly LWB and can help at RWB
I agree with you when thinking about this season. Especially since Jones is familiar with the concepts of playing as a wing back. I am nearly certain that Jones would get a look to be the LCB during 2025 preseason. Maybe even some this season if we need a goal late. Move him back there from wing back, bring in Arsten and throw caution to the wind.
