Well, it's a one year loan with an option to buy, so I guess time will tell. But it seems an odd acquisition as a depth player. So I assume the goal is to see if he can become a starter. He turns 26 in November and, when he was younger, received youth call-ups for Argentina. He played for River Plate, which is a big club. He has a solid resume. Certainly better than Farsi's when he came here. By the way, Transfermarkt says the loan fee is $275K. River Plate paid a $2.2M fee to acquire him 2.5 years ago. Did anyone have "Sign Two Wing Backs" on their summer transfer window bingo card? Not me.
Someone on reddit had a good analysis. To summarize, the guy lost his starting spot and is the opposite of a fan favorite. It's a strange depth more for me. I really don't understand. We might need more defenders if Griezman goes to LA as now seriously rumored
Makes sense this is a loan, I suppose. He could arrive and eventually supplant Farsi as RWB. Or not. In any event, the window closes in 8 days. So far, it's not what I'd have expected, both in a good way (Jones acquisition) and a bad one (no offensive signings). I'll try and be patient until the window closes, but it's not my strong suit. That said, in Nancy we trust, right? He's earned a pretty long leash when it comes to how the club is run.
If you can't make a deal that makes sense, financially or tactically, it's better to pass. I'm sure there are guys out there that they'd love to have but they couldn't swing a deal, or guys they could get but on closer examination decided not to pursue. And I'm OK with that. It's not like we're desperate.
I find this move to be a total head scratcher unless….. this is the start to a lot of other dominos falling in the last few days of this window
Still doesn’t address the biggest weakness on the roster, and I find it alarming that the FO doesn’t seem worried by it.
Chambost was an offensive signing. Herrera likes to attack per his quote in the team twitter. Dejuan Jones same thing. Other than a solid #9, the long thing missing is a Morris replacement. Maybe it’s coming. Or Nancy has full faith in Zawadski. Seems like LAFC, RSL, Miami, Cincy and Us are all trying for the Cup. Rest of the league has decided not to compete.
It's a stretch to call Chambost an offensive signing. He scored six goals in 33 games in Ligue 2 last year; his career highwater mark. Three the previous year (also in Ligue 2). A whopping zero goals and one assists in his one season in Ligue 1.
I know there havent been rumors lately but it would be zero percent surprising to see a trade go through in the next week for a number 6/8 type. A proper Morris replacement. Someone like Matthew Choinere in Montreal. I think we're all Zawadski fans here, but the depth chart of him, Matan (seems like he might be sticking around after all?) and Derrick Jones is possibly a bit short of ideal. Outside of that, this roster is so completely loaded. It needs absolutely nothing offensively. It is deep, it is incredibly talented, and there is no reason to believe the goals that have flown in so furiously over the first 75% of the season are going to dry up. Especially now that the wings have been revamped. Why a person, at this point, would doubt Nancy et al is very much beyond me. But to each their own I suppose.
Both could be true but also Farsi can play more than just RWB. I think Yeboah was gone at seasons end so doing it now maybe we get a lil something for him.
We need another 9 and a 6/8 pretty badly if we want to keep up with the top teams (cincy, rsl, lafc) who all made big moves.
This Tall & Nancy so hopefully they find something because it will be slim pickings in the next window to start 25
And we got u22 spots and can get another DP no excuses we need to go for it if the right kinda guys are available
Counter point-Cucho/Rossi/Ramirez is still the best attacking 3 in the league. If Cucho stays through the summer, Columbus still has one of the best 2 or 3 players in MLS. Going out and getting a DP 9 throws all that attacking chemistry out. For the sake of what? Because some other teams out west have signed a couple guys? Where is the need? What is missing? I dont want to be dismissive of Olivier Giroud here, by the way. He could very much take LAFC up another level or 2, in fact it would be surprising if he didnt. But that wouldnt be an issue until MLS Cup, or maybe the Leagues Cup final, and even then I think LAFC showed they could very well need to go up more than 2 levels to reach where Columbus is capable of playing.
