The difference is that everyone, no matter your gender affiliation, dislikes Taylor. Whereas the implication is that male viewers have certain expectations for female commentators that are unrelated to their soccer knowledge.
If this were the Quakes, I would be thinking that we’re going to give up our early advantage… I’m almost feeling that with LAG, as they just don’t look like they are totally into this game. They looked that way the first 15 mins, but not since then. Kind of reminds me of how Miami lost that 3rd game to ATL. Just didn’t take the opponents seriously.
The final score of MLS Cup 2024 is: 2 – 1 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
I didn't want to see the Galaxy win another MLC Up but they deserved it because they seemed in control of the game from the outset. Playing at home I'm sure also helped.
This is a dumb question, but are you supposed to be walking around without crutches just 1 week after tearing your ACL?
Blech. At least NYRB made a game out of it, and looked like the better team at times after the awful start. What a crappy year it's been all around.
I can’t believe the Galaxy stadium is now almost 22 years old. Do the Gals have any plans to refurbish it or build a new one?
I had a blast. Too bad about the result. It was a fun and entertaining match. A few people teased me about the Quakes when they saw my hat. The handful I chatted with thought Arena would improve San Jose, and all hoped to see a better Quakes squad. "It's good for the league." I stood next to two childhood friends, now in their early 30's. The one next to me was blind drunk. He kept shaking my hand and hugging me even though I told him I was rooting for NYRB. "You are a great guest." They bought tickets for $180 a few hours before the game. At my last check outside the library at 10:45 AM, I saw GA tickets for $120. The place was packed, which surprised me. I thought some scalpers would eat their tickets. They didn't add temporary bleachers in the NE and SE corners like they had for some previous MLS Cups. The game didn't sell out until Friday night because of the high ticket prices, which dropped throughout the week It all worked out great for me. I got the killer deal on the ticket. Otherwise, I would have passed.
What does that even mean? The league didn't try to "replace" the Galaxy stadium with the LAFC stadium, they obviously prefer having two soccer stadiums one per team to one soccer stadium being shared by two teams (as Chivas did with the Galaxy)... The Galaxy spend money on stadium improvements every few years, for example when the Chargers played there, apparently $35 million in improvements from 2013-2017: Highlighting the multi-faceted enhancements to StubHub Center, which now total over $35 million since 2013, will be a new 20-foot by 52-foot video board on the stadium’s south side, suite renovations throughout the stadium, locker room renovations, club seating upgrades and state-of-the-art LED ribbon boards, among others. This 2021 page on the official MLS site of "stadiums built or renovated for MLS teams" doesn't bother to actually mention stadium renovations which is disappointing... love the little PR "note" that must have been provided by the clubs though
I did know the Gals spent $35 million in improvements for the Chargers. I guess that is good for them. Seeing LAndy in a Galaxy jersey handing out medals brought back old wounds and I still hate that team.
Yeah, hard to give Baby Judas a pass for youthful disloyalty to the Quakes when as a forty-something he embraces the face-of-the-Galaxy-franchise role. Wasn’t Beckham available instead? Or did someone think it wouldn’t sit well in Miami?
I said I wasn't going to be watching. We ended up going to the Oakcrest Tavern on Old Middleton Road to meet a friend for dinner (in Wisconsin, taverns/inns are places one goes for good food as well as adult beverages - almost all the best fish-fries and burgers are at taverns). As we stepped into the place every TV was tuned to the MLS cup (fortunately no sound). I semi-loudly proclaimed my disgust for both teams and went to our table. It was 2-1 43" into the match. Fortunately my bacon Swiss burger was excellent as was my draft Spotted Cow lager (not sold outside of WI - they sell shitloads of cases at the Madison airport). Great conversation, great food, great beer and never even glanced at the screens again.
Correction! I did not know the Gals spent $35 million in improvements for the Chargers. Good for them..
I suspect it was the Chargers who spent the money in improvements for the Chargers. https://footballstadiumdigest.com/2017/08/los-angeles-chargers-prep-stubhub-center-for-nfl/
