MLS Cup 2024 is finally set. So how will you be celebrating the annual event? With an intimate gathering of family and friends? With a blowout MLS Cup block party? Or somewhere in between? And how will you be feasting the day? Pizza? Hamburgers? Chicken wings? All of the above (I'm assuming that beer will be involved as well )? In any case, have fun and let's hope not only that the San Jose Earthquakes will be in next season's edition, but that they’ll be hosting it in PayPal Park for all of the U.S. and Canada to see. This will be the first MLS Cup final since 2014 to include two MLS Original Ten teams. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G

The tickets are crazy expensive. I planned a trip; found cheap airfares, accommodation with friends. I got a presale email from the Galaxy late last night, opened it this morning. The cheapest ticket (endline GA) is $300 plus a $54 fee. Too much, even for this nut. That's why they invented the television. My Quakes season tickets are $360 total per ticket for the whole season. I guess if they open up the berm at a reasonable price, I could decide to go last minute. However, those tickets will probably be $250 plus fees unless they have trouble selling the regular seats, which aren't exactly flying off the shelf.
Do people actually shop in brick & mortars any more? I live walking distance from a huge mall, very seldom go there, and on the rare occasion I do, it's all tourists.
Yeah, it's a little ridiculous that the MLS season goes practically to mid-December. At this point, who cares.
Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara and Santana Row across the street are often so full of people it's hard to park in any of the 30 parking garages they've built. Valley Fair is a very large mall surrounded with even much larger parking garages. I avoid it like the plague. Last time I was there I felt like a fish out of water. There's a trendy Korean(?) eyeglasses store, Gentle Monster, that has, for some reason, giant animatronic donkeys out in front and an animatronic elderly woman sitting down in the back, and then a few eyeglasses spread around a large space. "The old lady was designed to look half-asleep, creating a series of movements where she seems to be dozing off and waking up again. We wanted to illustrate a dream state in which to convey how we interpret the memory restoration process and more importantly, what would the reaction and emotion be when you wake up from a dream and see something physically appear from your dreams in front of your eyes. For the old lady, we see her waking up to see her childhood friend, the donkey. When designing her we focused on trying to create that emotion through an expression she gives once she awakens,” says Moon. Gotta admire them going for it in terms of artistic vision, but that's pretty out there, and not sure what it has to do with eyeglasses.
The special holiday pop-ups are very different from going to the mall -- people want to find unique items, and made by local artisans, even better. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I'll watch and hope for a RBNY win but I'd never go for a final if the Quakes weren't playing, no interest, even less if there's a chance I'd have to sit through a LAG cup win. One of my biggest soccer regrets is not going down there 21 years ago for our cup final. I was at Spartan for the great comeback, and then again for our conference final win over the Wiz...just kind of blew it on that one. The only time I was ever there was the following year (20 years ago!) for a Cure show. It's a nice field, and one of the first soccer specific stadiums, as I recall, but I've never been there for a soccer game.
I ended up missing both of the Earthquakes’ MLS Cup final appearances, for different reasons. A last-minute family emergency kept me from MLS Cup 2001 (everything ended up fine there, although I then had to eat my plane ticket ), so I instead watched the game on TV. And because MLS Cup 2003 fell on my birthday that year, I had family plans that weekend planned long in advance that I tried but couldn't get out of. As with MLS Cup 2001, though, I was at least able to watch the game on TV. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Sorry Goodsie, That's rough. The wife and I took advantage of the Home Depot Center Cups and saw the Quakes win in 2003, DC in 2004, and C-Bus in 2008. We had tickets in 2011, but when it came down to LAG and Houston we sold em. Couldn't stand either team winning. Same problem in 2012. I like that it's hosted by the highest seed now, but it's made tickets far more in demand.
Thank you, Seismothusiast. Very cool. When both PayPal Park and Snapdragon Stadium each eventually hosts an MLS Cup final, then all four current California MLS stadiums will have hosted at least one. Completely understandable, especially with those two teams. It’s interesting that the MLS Cup 2010 final in Toronto - the one that the San Jose Earthquakes came within one bad cold weather ball bounce of making - with its cold winter weather keeping many neutral fans away, was the final catalyst for the league deciding to change the MLS Cup final venue from predetermined neutral site to the higher-seeded participating team starting two years later. What, Puig played 30 minutes last night with a torn ACL?? I guess he's tougher than he looks and his squeaky voice would indicate . That's a real blow for LAG though. https://www.facebook.com/MLS/posts/1117925516598913
I was definitely prepared to go, last-minute, freezing, and all that. You just never know when if ever your team will win another championship. Right now that idea feels a million miles away. Beyond hating LAG and their fans, I'll admit some sympathy for NYRB fans. This isn't a hard game to pick sides on!
This summer when LAG came to Stanford, Puig didn't come in until sometime in the 2nd half, and I think Fagundez started in his place. They still torched us, but they torched us more when Puig came in.
