I'm glad you guys had a good time jamming in there with us. Who was the other red and white wearing guy with the crown on his head who had all the dance moves?
It's quite simple. Toronto invented championships. Also, a simple housekeeping note. It doesn't really matter all that much, but i've seen a few posts about getting a star above the logo. In 2009, we should have a scudetto on the jersey. The star will come in 2010. It'll still look damn good though.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to the Crew! They showed the hearts of champions all year and a more deserving team never took the Cup. Sometimes in sports, it all just works. This team is one of those oh-so-rare teams and it's such a joy to watch.
You know, one of my favorite stories about this whole thing is that Gino Padula quote to Guille before the game. Gino said something like, "You already have 17 titles, try hard to win one for me today." We here all the time about players coming over hear just for a paycheck and not really believing in their team or the league. This is definitely not the case with guys like Guille and Gino here. It's just another part of this team that makes me so proud to bea Crew fan.
What I love about this picture is the position of the goalkeeper, on all fours looking at the ball. Looks like Frankie just had his way with him and the keeper is asking Frankie if he will "call tomorrow" and if he "will still respect him". That was a masterpiece of a hat-trick by GBS. And I think Chad Marshall deserves a spot with the USMNT.
Did anyone have a Blazing Saddles flashback when NYRB scored their goal: "Oh, no, don't score against them. That only makes them mad." Seriously, if you would have scripted that final, tell me it wouldn't have gone off exactly like that.
I can't wait to see the "2008 MLS Cup Champions" banner hanging up at Crew Stadium. Right next to the "2002 Open Cup Champions" banner. It was good to see Duncan Oughton celebrating....the guy deserved it after so many years with the Crew.
Absolutely. I don't know how many times St. Dunc has sat on the bench for 30 or more minutes after a heart-breaking loss. Hopefully the following banners can join the one we have: 2004 Supporters' Shield (let's face it, I think we need one and it's probably safe to say the demons have been kicked to the curb.) 2008 Supporters' Shield 2008 Eastern Conference Champions 2008 MLS Cup Champions (a really huge banner in yellow so it sticks out against the black wall)
I think its an AP photo, which they make available for purchase. I'm trying to track that down as well
Yes, that is correct. I was too tired to look up the details last night, but if anyone can find how to obtain said picture, feel free to post it here.
Here's my game review, mainly for the more casual fans but those here might want to see it for some local coverage from the little fish in the big waters . . . http://www.columbussports.com/content/writers/dave_herd/crew-ride-massive-season-to-final.shtml
I'm so massively proud of this team. It has been a massive year to be a Crew fan. Thank you, Crew. 3-1? MASSIVE, baby. I keep thinking about the game, and I realize I've got a smile on my face. A massive smile.
Could someone PLEASE pick me up this edition of the paper and ship it to me? ... or perhaps tell me another method of getting ahold of it other than driving all the way up to C-town? I'd really appreciate it.
Getty images, it turns out http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?contractUrl=2&language=en-US&family=editorial&p=columbus%20crew&assetType=image&ep=2&ebd=2008-11-23&src=quick# scroll down edit: theres some fantastic stuff on this page, much better than the AP archive from what i can see
You know, we need to send Garber's remarks into the folks at the "365 Stupidest Things Ever Said" calendar. Their e-mail is stupidestcalendar@yahoo.com.
It would have been hilarious if Frankie had taken the Cup and said, "On behalf of Columbus, I'd like to thank Commissioner Goodell for this beautiful Cup."
