Lol, why are they on so late?

  3. Two games? That's awesome!
Is channel five a national channel?
And judging from the 4:30am-6:00am scheduling, I assume the games are shown tape-delayed by a few hours?

And you must be refering to Twellman's corner-flag celebration.

    Thanks for the info.

Here's what they have for May 22nd.
    From their listings:

    03.05 - 04.35
MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER - Top class football from the emerging power of world football, the USA. Major League Soccer is their domestic league and tonight’s game features all the action from the game between the New York/New Jersey Metrostars and the Colorado Rapids. The Metrostars have made a good start to the season with 18 year old striker, Mike Magee making an impression, while Colorado are banking on new signing, the Mexican midfielder Alberto Rizo to provide a boost to their season.

That's alright, we can take it. It's easy to have tough skin when you've won four in a row, as opposed to that team on the other side of the country...

You're absolutely right. I should get with Lakers fans and start bonfires in the middle of the street. More contemporary that way.

    You win..
Now back to the subject since the Metroscum changed it..[IMG] I assume they use the American announcers on the broadcasts?
Has anyone seen an MLS jersey in England?

The games they show are shortened rebroadcasts of the ESPN2 game. They have the same audio as those matches.

I've seen a MLS jersey in England, it's my own Galaxy one =)

because of the bbc, to receive any channels at all you must pay yearly fee. however once you pay this fee, channel five is one of the five basic channels you can recieve with an aerial. i would say it is similar to one of the networks, like fox or cbs. they show the the espn broadcast, with the halfs shown continously, no comercials in between.

all i see in england is yankees stuff everywhere, it seems they are getting the better end of that deal with man u. did see a redskins jersey once which was pretty cool.

So to clarify, it looks as though this channel broadcasts the ONE espn2 match per week in the middle of the night on a 4-5 day tape-delay.

Channel Five launched on 30th March 1997 to take its place alongside BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4 as the UK’s fifth free terrestrial television service.

In a typical month last year 39 million people tuned into Five. In October, however, nearly 41 million people tuned in, which was the largest number of people to tune in in a single month ever.

To be fair the position is probably akin to the amount of UK Baseball or UK American Football shown on US TV. Actually, I'm not sure there is any baseball played in the UK but you know what I mean.

it's just a fashion thing, nothing at all to do with the baseball team. I'd wager the vast majority have no idea that the logo on the stuff is to do with a team - they just think it's new york.

That's a pretty damning indictment of the interest generated in England by MLS.

MLS was on a bit earlier last year I think. I'm sure I saw a bit of a game or two while flicking through the channels. Channel 5 show a lot of sport late at night. Dutch football gets an airing, as does baseball and possibly some NHL games. I'm not sure who watches the games, but possibly MLS has a cult following among Britain's insomniac community.
    Today's nightwatchman schedule is
    00:05 Feyenoord v PSV
    01:35 Argentinian football
    03:10 Argentinian highlights
    04:00 - 05:35 MLS - Metrostars v Colorado

    so MLS is up against
    BBC1
    02:35 - 06:00 BBC News 24

    BBC2
    00:30 - 06:30 Education programmes for schools

    ITV
    04:00 - 05:30 teletext pages

    Channel 4
04:05 Transworld Sport - global crap sports show
    05:05 - 05:50 Countdown. Seminal low-budget so-crap-it's-quite-good game show.

So I think it's time for MLS to blow its own trumpet and claim that it records the top market share when shown in Britain (although it might lose a few stoned viewers who turn over for countdown in the second half).

they show two games a week, early wednesday morning and early friday morning (kick off between 4 and 4:30 am) the games are old (i think this game they are showing is from last saturday?) and im not quite sure what the repeat situation is because ive taped three games so far and two have been repeats.

tread carefully when talking about my girl carol. she makes math and spelling exciting.

I used to work with a guy who won the champion of champions final. He felt he really had a chance with carol. What a right wierdo he was. He used to bark at women and far far worse things besides. If he wasn't actually a danger to the public, he did a damn good impression of somebody who was.
