There are some expected names, and some that are completley unexpected. The combine is a place where individual skill is placed at a premium. It is just too hard to mold the players into a team in the few days that they have. It is nice to see players invited from some of the smaller schools.
If Steven Arias from UConn is going to the combine, well congrats to UConn....he was by far their least talented starter and this means that with their talent they will have 7-8 guys going in each of the upcoming years........someone please tell me how this guy got in there.....would Ray Read just happen to be coaching a team there again???
Funny to me how not one playe from FIU was not selected. They have played against MLS teams in the past and have always done well. They have at least 2 kids that I can think of that at least deserve to be there: Bobby Boswell and Alan Handy. In reality the combine is a bit of a joke like someone mentioned before the teams are made of kids who are not comfortable playing with each other and also the time frame is to short. The only way to fix this is for MLS to spend more money on scouting such as hiring scouts to cover different regions of the country like Baseball, Football, and Basketball do they leave no stone unturned
Here is a thread where I followed a lot of these guys through the season and it has stats for the guys going to the combine. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3717048#post3717048
