2012217698709590131 is not a valid tweet id Atlanta United's director of high performance Dave Tenney has left for Real Salt Lake. Tenney was a Lagerwey hire. ATLUTD will receive $100K in GAM, per a club source.
I have no idea how to evaluate this, given Atlanta's place int he table the last couple years and my inability to assess what sort of preparation (or lack thereof) the high performance guru's work produced or impacted the team. But $100k GAM is a lot so he must be good at it? Demonstrably in some way?
The short answer is that Tenney is one of the industry leaders in sports science, particularly when it comes to soccer. As for demonstrably showing it.. Sports science isn't really something that shows results immediately and it definitely doesn't overcome poor coaching/low quality players. Tenney's only been at one location (Sounders) for a long enough period of time for the full impact of his skill set to come to fruition and he did really well there.
Great 15 year-old article on his philosophy, which will help answer a few questions the next time you get into a discussion about energy pathways for soccer players. Interview with David Tenney - Complementary Training https://share.google/4whlQ3GjGTWNba5xm

He's already a part owner of SKC. He's buying a majority stake. I suspect this was planned when he bought his initial stake in 2022. The Illigs are cashing out though apparently they'll still run the club. "In 2024, 16 of its 29 teams [MLS] were unprofitable, according to Forbes estimates, with Sporting Kansas City posting an estimated operating loss of $2 million. But the league has long seen this year’s World Cup—being held in the United States, Mexico and Canada—as a potential turning point for its business" Every other soccer league in the world bleeds money. The fact that 13 clubs make a profit is incredible. Sorry... tangent.
