Not bad is better than the Fire have been! Not terrible is better than the Fire have been! You mean the 18 or so players who suck at all things soccer? We have been starting "Mighty" Tom Barlow, for chrissakes! That's the sort of Optimism we need! With last in the East almost assured this season, there is nowhere to go but up, I guess. Thanks!
All the USMNT X still keep on hating Berhalter even though he isn't the coach anymore. They really do have derangement syndrome. As for Berhalter in Chicago, they can't do worst. He is an upgrade to what they have had. I just don't think the SD and coach job works at MLS anymore. But curious to see which foreign players he goes after since they'll have DP spots open.
I'm calling it now. If Berhalter fails at Chicago (which many USMNT fans are hoping for) they'll keep the narrative going for years on end that Berhalter was never a good coach for USMNT. If Berhalter is successful at Chicago those same fans will discredit MLS and say that MLS is a mediocre league that even a bad coach like Berhalter can have success. Or...if Berhalter is successful (get them into a play off run) but doesn't win MLS Cup that'll be enough to say he isn't a good coach.
They probably need a distraction from Pochettino suggesting some MLS options may be ahead of Euro guys who aren’t playing much.
I think you are concocting a story that has nothing to back it up. Who wants Greg to fail at Chicago? He was a good MLS coach before and can be again. He was a mediocre at his best national team coach. I wish him luck in MLS (except against DC).
I just want to say that this phrase from the Fire, The Path to Tomorrow Starts Today, is hilarious to me. It’s the kind of thing Corporate would write in an Office Space type satire. It’s…perfect. It says nothing at all, but with deep profundity.
I post in the USMNT forum, and those of us who do could name a handful of folks who want him to fail with just a few moments’ thought. Thankfully the MLS forums don’t have a lot of that kind of faux high stakes posting.
Here's a quote from JT Batson about USSF fundraising in Sportico today. 'Batson said the group has raised more in the past year—upwards of $60 million—than it has in its entire history. “Part of this is that we just never asked people before,” Batson said. “Turns out, that helps.”' https://www.sportico.com/leagues/soccer/2024/pochettino-hiring-finances-us-soccer-1234800071/
Yeah, and the journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. If you don't ask the answer will always be "no" A friend and I used to play the "cliché-o-rama" game where when one of us would use a cliché, the other would come back with something like, "Yeah, that's true, but a stitch in time really does save nine..." "Right, but you can't lock the barn door after the horse has left..." and we'd go back and forth until we both couldn't take it any more.
Not sure Jermaine will get a shot in MLS. This is damning... https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/58...ion-jermaine-jones?source=user-shared-article
Can't say I'm surprised. I loved watching him play, one of my favorite players of his time, but the way he left the Rapids and some of his actions since then has left a real bitter taste in my mouth.
Can somebody summarize the JJ article? Ditto for what Jason said, he was great when he was here in NE, making everyone else on the field better, but after that...
Essentially he was an a$$hole to players, threatening them and telling them not to go to the union. He asked one player to retire and become a coach so they could open an international slot and when the player refused he suddenly found himself left out of the first team. Multiple stories like that, to the point that the players filed a grievance that got him suspended for the rest of 2024 and on probation for 2025, but some players don't think its enough and don't want to come back to play for him.
Interesting comment from Jason Hernandez, former Toronto FC player turned General Manager, who is looking to replicate what Philadelphia has done with their organization:"I can answer that pretty simply. I think it’s all connected. I used examples like LAFC and Philadelphia… pic.twitter.com/moI0KecE9L— José Roberto Nuñez (@JoserNunez91) October 22, 2024
I'm surprised that they don't look more at NYCFC. They change coaches, but the philosophy, roster build strategy, and playing style have stayed largely the same.
Peter Vermes says Sporting KC intend to spend big on a DP No. 10. Encouraging news. https://t.co/mjoawbWyC3— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) October 22, 2024
It helps that the strategy, playing style and coaches are dictated globally in Manchester. TFC need to become a Manchester City, not a NYC or Philly. They have a lot of money behind them.
I just don't understand why he doesn't get fired. He chooses his own players, own lineups, own tactics etc yet they don't see that the problem is him.
