The credit Union which sponsors the stadium/field is “America First Credit Union.” The credit Union was founded by Nazi-adjacent, or at least sympathizers, in 1939 in Utah. Many were involved in Utah University and Ft. Douglas, which is almost a part of the university campus, which was established to keep check on those pestering polygamous and secessionist (not with the South, but their own designs) Mormons in the mid 18th century (totally accurate).
Didn't they kick Henry Ford off the board for his anti-Semitism? And didn't their founders include Democrats like John T Flynn and Norman Thomas, who was head of the Socialist Party?
I meant 1800s or 19th century, obviously. The name still sucks. Henry Ford became an absolute pariah to everyone and everything for his views. I don’t think being a democrat pre-1970s is a cover for any sort of bigotry. Flynn was THE Pearl Harbor conspiracy theorist! YMMV.
BREAKING: LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo announces he will step down at the end of the season.“After much reflection and discussion with my family, we made the decision that at the end of this year we will return to Germany,” Cherundolo said in a statement. pic.twitter.com/oiEIoFlkfm— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) April 18, 2025
Steve Cherundolo has just announced that after a lot of thought and discussions with his family he will be stepping down from his LAFC manager position at the end of the season to allow his family to return to Germany.
This means that at the end of the season only 7 of 30 current managers (assuming none of them are fired this year) will have managed their current team in the 2023 season. 23 managers will have 2 full seasons or less in their current roles going into 2026.
LAFC should just get rid of him already. They have a shot at a CWC spot coming up soon. It would be better just to bring someone new in and have him implement his style for the rest of season so next season most of the players will already be familiarized with it.
I'm sure they are looking for a replacement. Why get rid of him and install an interim while they look? If the right person is identified and available this summer, I'd bet they'll pull the trigger.
Here's a good discussion about the sale, MLS Team Valuations, as well as the lower leagues in the US:
Almost certainly nothing, but Gary Smith was in attendance and seen with Padraig Smith at the Rapids game Saturday night. The reason I say ALMOST certainly nothing is that Chris Armas is in a contract year and there's been no hint of a new contract yet.
CITY could offer you guys a really good deal on a slightly used Swedish manager right now. You guys better act quick, because this one won't last.
In case @Stuart95 misses this for his news thread. Josh Gros has been with the Union for their entire history, and has lots of stories to tell https://www.inquirer.com/soccer/philadelphia-union-josh-gros-20250513.html Thx, Jay!
BREAKING: The LA Galaxy and head coach Greg Vanney have reached a contract extension, sources say. @PaulTenorio first reported.Galaxy won MLS Cup last year but are in historic 13-match winless run to start 2025Vanney has won multiple trophies in career https://t.co/YqTznmDM6e— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 16, 2025 Galaxy are doubling down on Vanney.
Because they want to copy the SKC formula. It worked out great for SKC. I'm surprised they didn't extend him till 2035.
The contract extension has been in the works since the day after the Galaxy won MLS Cup. They wanted to get the offseason player moves settled first. Vanney is one of the best coaches in the league. They went all in last season, and he helped deliver them the glory. This season their roster has been hampered by salary cap restrictions and injuries. Those aren't in Vanney's control.
All true, but a team MUST fire the coach when the team sucks, even for a 1/3 of a season. It's like a law or something.
