That the MLS just makes things up on the fly should be no surprise. Even given the expansion over the last few years, a different playoff and schedule system every year is a bit ridiculous. But to make a change in the middle of the season is pathetic. It gives the move absolutely no credibility.

But here we are anyways, the tiebreaker if two teams are even on points is now going to be Goals For, rather than Goal Difference. In theory, this isn't a huge deal. It isn't as if tiebreaks are set across all leagues. Serie A uses head to head, while EPL uses GD. But it is strange. It doesn't really promote more attacking play than GD does, since most teams with a high GD have it because they scored a lot, in addition to having a good defense. All it does is say to a team, don't worry about defense, we want to compete with a sport that awards 7x as many points for a goal as we do, so we need to up the scoring a bit (It worked soooo well for the NHL, after all:rolleyes:)

In practice, its implementation has got to be the worst possible decision. I'll give a chocolate chip internet cookie to the first person to guess which two teams rank 7th and 9th out of the 10 teams currently in playoff spots when judged on GD, but 1st and 2nd when judged on GF.

Why not just have the tiebreak be the team from the bigger media market wins.

    But, Pause said a 1 - 0 victory is the cat's meow!

and a 0 - 0 tie on the road is as sweet as cherry wine...

So maybe when we were running down the clock on a depleted TFC, we should have been going to goal instead...that's what I was saying anyway...

If the change was implemented at the beginning of the season...no problem...but since there's not too many games left, ow.

I don't think we will change our tactics at this point of the season...

NY has a GD of 4, but a GF of 38
LA has a GD of 0, but a GF of 39

SKC is probably hurt the most, they had a GD of 10, but a GF of 28. The new tiebreaker means that Houston (7/35) is now in first place in the East.

Why don't we just have a three point line like MISL if they're trying to compete with a sport where nobody cares about the scoring until the final three seconds of the game.

Or just make us Scotland. Oops, maybe not seeing as the Scots are now down to one team.
