Hmm Mario ************'s last name is C o n c h a. Bill McDermott is doing PBP in KC and color in Columbus. Jack Edwards returns to Chicago while Ty Keough shows up in Kansas City. I expect Kenn Tomasch and possibly Chris Costello will make radio appearances for the Fire. The LA English TV/Radio and FSW broadcasts will be a mix of the same pool of broadcasters. I think Phil Schoen and Ray Hudson are calling the Miami Fusion games. It's awful late for Dallas and Colorado to be announcing their TV coverage. Has anyone been to the Rapids website lately? Yikes! Corrections/Additions welcome.
I'm pretty sure that the Dallas broadcasts will be handled once again by the very capable team of Brad Sham and Dave Dir, with Bob Sturm filling in for Sham late in the season when Sham's doing Cowboys radio broadcasts. And yes, it is quite late for the Burn and Rapids to be announcing (or not announcing, as the case may be) their TV coverage.
Radio and Webcast: Dwight on PbP. When he's on TV duty, someone else steps in. Don't know who that is. It used to be a Chris Doran (don't know if it's the same one that's now in Chicago), but he left. Spanish is Marcelo Carrera and ??????
I'm not sure why, but I get so mad when I hear Max Bretos announce a game my wife turns the sound off. This guy is the worst announcer I've heard in my life.
I rarely feel sorry for the opposition squads, but what did the good people of Kansas City ever do to get saddled with Ty Keough? Also: no Max Bretos / Alan Hopkins on LAG broadcasts this year?
It is my understanding that since the Fire left Napersville, the matches will NOT be in WBIG, I haven't heard about any English Language radio. In Colorado, apparently match commentary is moving to KKFN "The Fan" AM 950. This has not been confirmed, but there has been a lot of seemingly plausable chatter over in the Rapids forum.
The Quakes have just announced that KZSF (1370 AM) will be their Spanish language radio broadcast partner. They'll do 15 home games. Here's the cast: "Popular Bay Area sports talk show host Carlos Cesar Rivera will handle play-by-play duties of all matches and he will be joined in the booth by Casto Pineda and Nuevo Mundo sportswriter Luis Ruelas. Jose Luis Yerena will also provide statistical support for the broadcasts." KZSF Partnership Announcement
Kenn Tomasch has posted a master television schedule on his site, here: http://www.kenn.com/soccer/tv/index.html
Regarding Chicago, here's what I know: Jack is still the main PBP for TV, but his NHL commitments may cause some conflicts. Liam is doing his usual "I know something you don't and I'm not telling you" schtick with regard to this weekend's game, for instance. Which means that it's not Chris Doran filling in. Chris has also been the on-the-field reporter for Fire broadcasts. Radio is still up in the air. WBIG is still possible, but I don't know how likely. There are two other potentially really good options, and then there's webcasting. If Chris isn't available, due to TV or other conflicts, I expect Kenn or me to pick up the slack. Later, COZ
I can't believe we're in year frikkin' nine and Bill "mushmouth" McDermott is still getting broadcasting work. Hasn't MLS progressed at least a little further so that we can got some more people who actually played or coached in MLS to do the games? By my count, Peter Vermes is the only person doing local color/analyst work who played in the league and Dir and Rongen are the only former coaches. I mean, we've gone this route with the national broadcasts, save for the clowns at Fox Sports World, and it would be nice if we followed suit locally. And speaking of the FSW games, are they going to cheap out again last year and do the games from their LA studio or are they going to actually pay the cost to fly Max and his President of the D&D Club buddy, Mr. Hopkins, to the games.
I got a note saying that "Brian Davis, who was the Fire's TV guy from 1998-2000, and who, fortuitously enough for the Fire, was just recently whacked by the Seahawks, will be back. They didn't release it as such, but it was buried at the bottom of the Fire Insider they just sent out."
I'll try to add radio webcast links tomorrow, but no promises.
