It would be very interesting to see it when completed.... they're essentially turning this upper deck into a stadium and the bottom deck into an arena, but I can't even mentally picture it: And yet it makes sense in a weird way. The idea of a stadium that's essentially on top of a building is just so bizarre, just imagine this but a field instead of the dome
University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona Cardinals' home stadium) has a rolling pitch that they keep outdoors until the day before a home game when they roll it into the stadium.
Yes I understand that but one of the posts was about grass growing on a platform so I thought of the movable pitches as comparable to that. Essentially it will be a giant pot for grass
I guess they get rid of the seats just below the upper deck. I really want to see the plans this is pretty cool idea.
We don't ever get the USMNT here, well every 17 years so far. We are hoping an MLS team would fix that but honestly the number isn't that bad, attached is link for reference numbers. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...gold-cup-rewind/2011/06/08/AGEyqMMH_blog.html
No, it wasn't. Apparently they don't, since every other city to host a US group stage game since 2003 has drawn less than Detroit (Seattle drew 15,000 in the last Gold Cup--are they not "real soccer fans")? And for the record: the last time the U.S. played a team other than Mexico in Texas was at Pizza Hut Park in the 2007 Gold Cup. Attendance was 11,000. Yes, you regularly draw great crowds for the National Team in Houston...but only for games against Mexico. And most fans aren't there to cheer for Landon Donovan.
Got some bad news for you guys. I sat down with the Don about two hours ago for a 40 minute interview, I asked him about Detroit maybe hopping over New York in the pecking order. He indicated that there was no bid, in very frank terms. I have audio to back it up but am squeezed for time as we have the SKC opener tonight, it was a straight foward question and a very direct response from him. While your lot may have started the process they are not even close to be considered at this specific moment in time -- the process is long and at this point it doesn't sound like any bid has made it out of the mail room. He did say that a strong bid from anywhere would supersede NYC2 if NYC2 wasn't ready. Hope is that it doesn't sound like there is a motivated bidder out there with a solid package of everything that is required yet but don't get to carried away by the news paper reports right now.
It sounds to me like the definition of the word "bid" is the issue here. What leads me to believe that is the following quote from a Free Press story: I'm guessing that Triple Sports submitted some sort of proposal that isn't what MLS defines as an official "bid," but fits a loose definition of the word. It also sounds like the negotiation of the franchise fee has begun. I wonder if that's what's behind the stated focus on NYC2, at least in part. "We're just looking at NYC2," with the second part of the sentence, "unless you want to write a big enough check to pry our attention away" left unsaid.
Thats bullsh*t I would love to hear this audio tape. Man people love to rain on someone's parade. I think your full of it. Are you a reporter?
Well I would love to hear this audio and who is this guy to sit down with Don GARBER for 40 mins ?? ha I call bullshi*
Footygal, he's a fellow Gooner, who's been posting about his upcoming interview with Garber for a while. I must confess, I was irritated he reached out to the Borough Boys to solicit questions on their behalf, but there's absolutely no reason to think he'd lie about this, so I don't doubt at all it's what the Commish said. Who knows what constitutes a formal, official bid and who knows what games he might be playing, that is, how much he'd care to disclose in this interview in KC...? I just wish someone would ask hard follow-up questions about why he's so certain a second team in the NY market would be such a great thing? Why not get things right with the existing team in that market and focus expansion on regions without a franchise? Makes no sense to me and many others... With a group desperate to bring MLS to a major market that has their own stadium ready to reconstitute, why not Detroit???
I'll have the audio up for you today -- and yes I did skip over you guys, I guess like most of the world I have NYC2 blinkers on and for that I am sorry. Nothing against Detroit (hell I'm a Lions fan for all my faults) but it seems like NYC2 is a priority. News of a bid had me ask about Detroit. I just need to chat with the two others also asking questions with me so that in doing so I don't steal stories they want to write. It was a shared conference with me and two other local KC writers.
Probably first among them. If the NFL plays this year, we may have a decent year, though. Which means, of course, that they won't.
If a Detroit team does enter MLS, I wish there was a way they could use the name, Detroit Wolverines. Not sure if they could make that happen, but it sounds way better than something like Detroit FC or something. I admit that MLS needs to put a stamp on NYC, but they need to look at whatever city will help the league in the long term over all success. If that's NYC2, then so be it. If it's Detroit, then that's fine too.
Its buried in there somewhere. Might be worth listening to the whole thing to get the context of the questions surrounding this. http://sportingtimes.net/articles/sitting-down-with-don-garber/ Sorry for going off half cocked on you yesterday - I should have held back till this was actually online. Yeah it really is bullshit in most markets but Sporting KC has a very open culture and I get to talk to most anybody I want to. Coaches, Owners -- its just the way it works out here. I am a cynic as well
No thanks. I'd really rather not have the stink of overrated, habitually choking furry rat on my team.
That interview tends to confirm my previous suspision, that Triple Sports has submitted a "proposal," which Garber says is not a "bid," but implies does exist, saying that he hasn't seen it. He also confirms that, if another city steps forward, that he won't wait for NYC2, and the new city can be the 20th team. I guess I don't think of it as the "bad news" that you do. Obviously, Triple Sports is in contact with MLS, and the process of getting a franchise in under way. Nothing bad about that.
I may have been Harsh but I am female so that may be the issue. pmssing I dont know if anyone is open with our potential ownership group.but I sure would love some clarification. I think SYoshonisis most deffenitly right right !! (Sarcastic) Hey why dont I just call up Mr. Steve Apostolopoulos on the phone and ask him whats the deal !!
