Damn. That is truly a very interesting idea. I'm not sure about the idea of putting natural grass on a platform, but it will definitely be a daring idea.

I like the "Motor City FC" name one of the comment-ers came up with!

Whatever the name, it would be interesting to see what kind of travelling support an MLS team there would get to and from southern Ontario (both home and away).

This was the best attended group stage game for the US since 03.

    On a Tuesday night.

28k is not bad at all.

Best atteneded group game since '03? Really? Well, I might have to reserve my criticism until the Tampa Bay game and KC game. But on the surface, I was diappointed by the 28k number.

Come on Detroit! You can do better!

It was indoors, and real us soccer fans know when the gold cup starts. How often do you get usa in your city? Its summer and a 6:30 game. Kids dont go to school. Sad showing detroit.
Although hopefully mls in detroit will fix this problem.

Kick Off: Prospective owners want MLS in Detroit by 2013

Group wants to bring MLS to the Motor City in two years

Tuesday night won’t be the last time that Landon Donovan is seen walking the streets of Detroit in a Tigers cap if a prospective MLS ownership group has its way.
The group that has been in talks with MLS about a team in Detroit is so bullish about its chances to bring pro soccer to the Motor City that they say: “If New York's not in for 2013, we think that would be our year. I'd say in the next two years, we'll hopefully be in the league."
They say renovations to the Silverdome, which they recently purchased, will take place in the next six to eight months.

Keep in mind there was zero local promotion until about 3 weeks ago. The Spain match siphoned off some East Coast people who would have otherwise made the trip to Detroit. But still...I'm ecstatic that Detroit saw the biggest U.S. Gold Cup group stage crowd in EIGHT YEARS. 28,209...that's a nice, healthy number and something I'm sure MLS will take a hard look at...why? Because a lot of those Canadian fans (and the U.S. fans, of course) come from areas of Ontario that already support Detroit sports and would probably be a part of the Detroit MLS fanbase.

My hometown represented last night. And we got the 3 points. Nothing but happiness from me!

Is this truly the real deal or is this just more foreplay?

The real deal. The proposal was submitted to MLS yesterday (what SYoshonis pointed out in the OP)

Considering how they build a stadium putting the grass on a platform is no different than in the traditional bottom of the bowl (when they scrape the grass off it looks like a rocky mess). I bet there will be less puddling in heavy rains ... unlike at RFK.

I think the idea works well I am excited to have this talk it started out as a dream and now its coming around. With the showing from last night I think we could have at least 15,000 peps per game.
