I think they can bring in a player to play in the CWC without breaking MLS rules as long as he doesn't play in MLS. But I'm not sure, plus it might not make sense if he goes straight into the CWC without any warm up games.
Others will be going straight into the CWC without any warm up games. Don't see how that will be different if MLS does it.
I don't know if Herc's interpretation is correct. It all seems to depend on when the final roster of 35 registered players are due to FIFA. If it is before the June 1 to 10 window then you are only allowed 2 unrestricted new players. From Article 24 Final List: 24.3 Without prejudice to paragraphs 4 and 8 below, from 27 June 2025 to 3 July 2025, clubs may make the following changes to their final list: a) Clubs may replace players whose contracts have naturally expired during the Competition. b) Clubs may add up to two new players to their final list, who shall not count towards the maximum of 35 players. c) The total number of players changed on, or added to, the final list under a) and b) above together may not exceed six. d) Any player changed on, or added to, the final list shall be duly registered for their club in accordance with the RSTP as well as with the regulations of the member association to which their club is affiliated. https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/18848e4224efbd91/original/FCWC25_Regulations_EN.pdf
Madrid makes a signing to bolster their CWC roster. Tyler Adams' teamate at Bournemouth. Huijsen has enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign in the Premier League after joining Bournemouth from Juventus and Madrid have swooped to see off competition for the 20-year-old, agreeing to meet his £50 million ($60m) transfer clause so he can play in June's Club World Cup. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/45162232/real-madrid-confirm-dean-huijsen-signing-bournemouth
half the gold cup 60 man prelim9nary roster is from mls thats crazy theres no way in hell that half of the top 60 american soccer players are playing doemstically
I've seen very few complaints about that roster. Unless you think Cade Cowell or Bryan Reynolds or somebody is some sort of snub. Or Ethan Horvath, who had a "meh" season for a relegated Championship team. There are seemingly U16 ,U17, U18, U19, and U20 camps over this window. So a bunch of the younger players will likely be with those teams. Noahkai Banks, for instance. [Who has played only a few minutes in the past 2.5 months due to injury.]
I haven’t followed Cade Cowell in Mexico, but that’s the only name I can think of that might be a snub.
There are very few players that were on the Nations League provisional roster, and not on this one. [Excluding CWC guys.] Cowell and Horvath are the two standout "snubs." .............and Banks I guess. But Banks has barely played of late due to injury, and will likely be with the U20s. Dietz is the uncapped Euro centerback to make the provisional roster. The provisional roster does capture the young/youngish MLS guys who have been standouts so far this season. Quinn Sullivan, Alex Freeman, Sebastian Berhalter, etc. Plus, the real standout uncapped youngish player in Europe, Damion Downs. [Unfortunately there have been injuries to young Euro players that we might have wanted to take a look at. Cole Campbell of Dortmund has a ligament injury.] There can be few complaints about this provisional roster. Unless people thought players not actually eligible for the USMNT at the moment would be there (Brown, Koleosho, Chase, etc.). Which would be silly................
Pulisic not playing in the Gold Cup. This is the last tournament where all the players can play together for a few weeks and get to learn Pochetino's new system. Some are injured and other aren't interested. The ones who are hungry are MLS guys but the USMNT stans despise the only players that play with heart and pride (and some do lack talent, I gree). Eitherway, this isn't looking good. I will still see the fan base blaming a certain league and players from that league to avoid critizing an elite coach and recognizing they were wrong about the quality and level of this generation. As things go, I see the WC being a disaster just like Copa America was. Hope I'm wrong.
to be fair gold cup is not real competition the friednly warmups will be much more informative/useful and for those we will see the a team roster
you really think this is a good usmnt roster? honestly? its bad enough to miss players like: pulisic, pepi, sargent, weah, mckennie, scally, jedi, musah .... for players like arfsten, miles robinson, luca de la torre, mcglynn, zawadzki, agyemang, brian white, ream but to also have them instead of: paxten aaronson, nathaniel brown, wiley, tolkin, taylor booth, pefok, ccv, fossey, ledezma, yow, reynolds, busio, pukstas, paredes, banks etc///its honestly just ridiculous its clear poch has an agenda to force mls into the team...same as berhalter and arena before him.....i guess the league insists on having mlsers in the wc team ...and no one is there to stop them otoh, i actually do like the idea of not letting the regulars not be too comfortable and calling up new faces ...but like this?!?! nah we're gettting to the point where poch will justifiy calling up crap players to the wc...bc they have "experience" working w poch...its all so predictable....and sad
He was being sarcastic. There are some players I'm interested in, like Berhalter, but I'm shocked that Paxten Aaronson isn't getting a look. Although this isn't the GC roster.
So now it's Pochettino who's carrying Don Garber's water? I fear for your anxiety level that you'll never live to see a USMNT coach that doesn't have an "MLS bias" based on your "standards".
The only real competition for several of you is the World Cup. That's when you should tune in only. Nations Leagues and Gold Cups aren't for USMNT to dominate. WC every 4 years just to see the national team at the minimum play 3 games and at the maximum 4. Very exciting times.
This type of comments are so predictable and with an agenda. Not targeting AdamTash here only but it's the same thing everytime; conspiracy theories that MLS/SUM/Don Garber want MLS players and the USMNT coach in turn must abide or else. In this case an outsider like Pochetino (which entire USMNT fan base wanted) agreeing to being told who to select. If these fans really believe this to be true, why even follow the USMNT at all? What's the point? You guys think things will change if you stick around longer? If things didn't change with Bradley, Arena, Klinsmann, Berhalter and now with Pochetino and we still keep on getting MLS quota then things will never change. I would just find another hobby instead of being upset all the time about USMNT line ups.
This is one of the stranger things about USMNT fandom to me, the fact that you see so many claiming to only care about three or four games every four years while simultaneously hyperfixating on the pool year round.
You’re funny. I’ll bet if you put on your thinking cap, you could come up with a different explanation than “it’th a conthpirathy!”
Someone should take that Principal Skinner cartoon of no, it’s the kids that are wrong! and make it of Adam Tash saying, no, it’s Klinsmann/Arena/Berhalter/Pochettino that are wrong! Because a mentally healthy person would, at some point, say to himself, maybe all of these successful coaches know something I don’t.
