You never heard of him or have ever seen him play until someone on X said he was eligible. Now all of a sudden he is the best option. So now Pochetino is the problem? Is there a time players playing in Europe get the blame for how bad they play?
Played for every Japan age group team since he was 14. Called up for a couple of friendlies for the full NT but didn't get off the bench. Spent his career mainly in J3 and J2 before joining Antwerp last season on a free, as a backup keeper, before taking over during a terrible run of form. No idea if anyone from the US has contacted him, unless Adam has been intercepting his email and phone calls for the last 10 years.
Anybody else google "how many mls based players played in the quarterfinals?" The Prem leads the way with 62, followed by La Liga, Serie A, Ligue Ungh, and Der Bundesliga. MLS stacks up well with the Portugeuse LIga, Eredivisie. Norway had 4 Championship based players....and 4 in their domestic league. If the QF is the goal, seems like a reasonable approach, mostly guys in England/Spain/Italy, a handful of domestics.
We are there already. We just need a better luck of the draw. In 2002 we advanced to QF because we faced off vs Mexico. I think it was on this thread or on another thread that someone said only 3 CONCACAF teams have reached the QF and those were Mexico, US and Costa Rica. Mexico vs Bulgaria in 1986 US vs Mexico in 2002 Costa Rica vs Greece in 2014 All three nations did it by facing off to a similar quality opponent or inferior.
Nozawa was on the bench for Japan against the US in the U17 World Cup, so I'm guessing any discussion about eligibility would have taken place around then, especially as it was Earnie Stewart's time in charge. Not everyone wants to play a the country they have no affinity to, especially when they've been part of another country's program their whole career. See Zion Suzuki or Nene Brown.
Dual internationals developed outside the domestic system who play in Europe are like catnip for some fans.
They seem to find it incomprehensible that someone who has never lived in the United States may not want to represent at Soccerball. I guess Trent Alexander-Arnold missed his big opportunity to be taxed twice on his income.
Yeah, it’s weird to see a player who has never represented the U.S. at any level as a missed opportunity.
Just like 2022, we are going to have an ACTIVE MLS player in the World Cup final. This time we might have two. Messi and Rodrigo de Paul. Not only that..............................there's a good chance that the World Cup Golden Boot winner will be an active MLS player.
And I'm over here hoping Pulisic doesn't come to MLS. Maybe that's what he needs. At least he'll always be available to play Gold Cups and Nations Leagues and just might not be injured as much but I'm doubtful in this last one. Man is made of glass.
Perhaps, but, if so, every player that is trying to earn a spot is "set up to fail". I believe that most people: former players, commentators and posters etc like to underline the importance of taking your chances when you get them. Weah wasn't first choice going into the Turkiye game. He had a chance to change that opinion with a good performance. Bottom line is that if the player isn't getting minutes, manager doesn't like him or whatever, he needs to produce when given an opportunity. He didn't produce. Period. Aaronson didn't produce either. They weren't the only ones.
This is right, but also we need to stop with the "We set Weah up to fail." This is just the usual protecting of our players. Oh no! Weah was asked to play on the left! I agree, he's not as good there. But it's also completely indicative of the fact that he's not that good and he's not playing that well. At some point, the standard for our players needs to become "Yes, this was hard but they came up big" and not "Oh, everything wasn't perfect for our baby; that's why he sucked." Show me the guys who shine through in difficult times or lift their teammates rather than the guys who collapse when they have to gasp! play with a backup or gosh! adjust to a new position.
Look at Weah's heatmap against Turkey compared to Brenden and Pulisic. I don't know if this was per instruction. We really could have done with Luna. Timmy Brenden Puli
Agree, but I also think that the "he was set up to fail" meme gets thrown up more based upon preconceived notions of "player quality". It definitely does not get spread evenly. How many times did we see people blaming Berhalter for stars underperforming, while at the same time using a poor performance from an "inferior" player as confirmation of their level.
no he wasnt...he just played poorly him moving to outside back for club was so bizarre to me what do you think should have been different for him to succeed exactly?
