Need to rampage through the streets setting fire to a few cars and abusing coppers. Millwall fans rioting and Preston North End fans ambushing away fans at the local station dates back to the 1890s.
Shouldn’t be a problem. We can get Philly fans to train anyone who needs it on belligerence and rioting. And if we’re going to go full Millwall, we can also get older Boston NBA fans to lead some racism how-to seminars.

That's kind of a crazy analogy. Let's start with this question: are there any Mexican politicians that have a constituency that has a significant number of USMNT fans (by significant), I mean large enough that their opinions etc. could impact that politician's chances for (re)election? Within USA, we have many different ethnic groups that can and do support their "roots" team. Some support USA in preference to their "roots" team and others prefer the roots teams but most, I believe, support USA when their roots team is not involved and vice-versa. I don't think you have nearly the same dynamic in Mexico.
Anecdata - in 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015 my club held watch parties at a local park where we'd put up a big screen, have some club merch (unclaimed coach appreciation gifts) maybe some puggs for the u1-4s to kick a ball into in conjuction with the city. I think the only time it wasn't the game that sent us home was 2011, when we did the semis and the final. This time around, I'm no longer with the club but they've done nothing, because the local USL team has had watch parties in their stadium, and the local NFL team has had watch parties in their stadium, along with several bars adverstising watch parties etc.... We're culturing, slowly but surely... ed\it; didn't realize this was the MLS bias thread at first. I'm sure the best fans at the USL watch party would have been recruited to go to the Columbus or DC United watch parties if we had made it to the quarters....
Didn't know Mexicans could vote in the US. My bad. So you saying it's pandering? Bring up whatever excuse you all want to justify it, my point is that you will never see Mexican politicians or ex-players putting on the USMNT jersey for any reason and if they do they'll be a lot of backlash.
In Mexico there is a saying "Mexico es para los Mexicanos" (Mexico is for Mexicans). My point was that you won't ever see this in Mexico. Call it pandering or whatever justification you can think of, you won't see it in Mexico. There would be huge backlash if it happened. You want to justify it? Fine. I honestly don't care either, I'm not even upset about it. Just said why the Mexican NT is gaining more popularity here in the US when you have politicians and our best soccer player ever start wearing a Mexico NT jersey and rooting for them. I'll just leave it at that.
Excuse is not the right word. It is what it is but the situation in Mexico is completely different than it is here. And always will be. "Didn't know Mexicans could vote in the US. My bad." I assume you are talking about non-USA citizen Mexicans voting in American elections? Interesting how you made that leap. Did I say that? There are many Mexican Americans in this country that are citizens and can vote. Some were born here and some were naturalized. I suppose, technically, any that have dual citizenship could be "dehyphenated" and referred to either Mexican, or American. It appears that you really know absolutely nothing about the Mexican Americans in the USA. It may surprise you to know that many who consider themselves Mexican Americans (and by definition are Mexican American) actually have no Mexican citizenship. Many of those are at least sympathetic to the Mexican National team. I know what your point is. It isn't hard to see. My point is that what you say about Mexico may be true, but your analogy is irrelevant to the reality in USA in general and especially when politicians are involved. You ask if I am saying that it's pandering? Well, isn't that what politicians do? the thing is that "pandering" in this case makes sense but it wouldn't in Mexico. Their fanbase is homogenous, ours is diverse. By the way, just to be clear, I was rooting for all of the CONCACAF teams to win their games. If any had played the US, I would root for USMNT and against them. I think that is fine, so we will have to disagree on that point.
Yeah, a Mexican-American doesn't know anything about Mexican-Americans lmaol. You are right, I don't have Mexican citizenship because I find no use for it. Can I get it? Sure, it's as easy as just going to the consulate, take my mother's birth certificate and I'll get it. It's that easy. Only benefit for me would be using the Mexican passport instead of the US passport while traveling to the interior of Mexico and not having to pay a permit to do so. Do I travel a lot to the interior? Not really unless I go on vacations. I have always lived in the border and never needed the Mexican citizenship that's why I don't get it. As for your "Mexican-Americans are sympathetic to the Mexican NT", you sound like them that take it so personal if you aren't on their "side". So let me tell you what I tell those that tell me that I'm a traitor to my own kind for rooting for USMNT, "te crees gringo", you have a cactus on your forehead, that I forget where I come from, where my family comes from etc. I root for whoever I want and if I loved Mexico so much I'll just pack my bags and go live over there. What better way to experience the Mexican culture, experience the NT playing in Mexico, its people, how they live, work, and the country than to live there, no? I never said it happened in Mexico. I said this will NEVER EVER happen in Mexico. Mexican people are proud, they don't do the chicken dance to foreigners nor pander to them specially in their own country. The "we are diverse" has nothing to do with the examples I gave. I gave 3 examples of people who aren't Mexicans and are public figures (not your average joe) who were/have supporting the Mexican NT. But as I said on my previous post, if they want to pander, fine. You just won't ever see it from Mexican public figures.
1. Since no Mexican politician has a buttload of Americans in his party’s coalition in his district, you’re imagining things. 2. Hugo Sanchez isn’t a politician.
This thread is so ridiculous I came on here expecting to read people saying yeah, the mlsers were actually the weak links, killing the team - ream and freeze- were dead weight in the end.....too heavy to carry Instead I see people going on about mexico ratings vs usmnt ratings?? Yeah.....whatever Anything to deflect from reality: mls sucks. And has no place in the usmnt.... If pochettino comes back for a 2nd cycle - and I don't want him to - i predict he will do what berhalter did in his 2nd: shun mls. Pochettino settling on ream from day 1 was one of the most idiotic things he could've done. Ream isnt good enough for mls. He should have retired in 2022 (As far as world cup ratings for usmnt: they show just how incompetent and stupid don garber is; he's been insisting on mls using training wheels for 30 years, ignoring a gold mine right in front of his eyes.....there is SO MUCH INTEREST IN SOCCER IN THE UNITED STATES .....but mls is so shtty that no one watches it....it starts at the top.....mls execs are clueless)
Ok let's get a tournament with all ten of these leagues represented and see how mls does.....lol And let's see how the Americans from mls do in those matches... Lets see if they can avoid being like ream and freese (unlikely)
Based on the shyte he's been given you can understand why Pulisic felt he had to take on Belgium single-handed but Dest had no excuse.
Agree for once. Partially agree but if it were up to Eurostans they'll want Kochen as the GK and we wouldn't even have made it out of GS if he was the GK. We don't have other options at GK. Ream is old and yet the other Euro options many stans wanted couldn't even take his place because they are just that bad too. And as usual you ignore how bad Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, and almost everyone else for the exception of Tillman all played. I'll give a pass to Balogun since he can't score if he doesn't get service. Typical from USMNT stans to ignore those performances. It's a pattern already. 2nd cycles usually don't work out so I'm with you on this. But I suspect they'll pick someone from MLS which I don't want. Pochetino wasn't paid by USSF. A donor was paying his salary. If he doesn't pay anymore forget about big name coaches.
Ream was excellent until it was time to play against an elite team. So if the rest of his tournament doesn’t count the same goes for Balogun, McKennie or Pulisic.
The US lost to Belgium. Belgium's demise was greatly exaggerated. Without three of their best players (and then losing their GK later on as well) Belgium pushed Spain to the brink. If we take Belgium's roster and compare it to the USMNT roster (and you can make it all Euro based if you like, or just all non-MLS players too), Belgium is the better team. It's not close either. Up until the Belgium game, Tim Ream was one of the US's best players at the World Cup. Tillman aside, the rest of the team was flat out awful against Belgium. Here's the reality check: Flo Balgun, would not make the English team Sergino Dest, would not make the Dutch team Malik Tillman, would not make the German team Antonee Robinson, he'd make the English team and likely start Pulisic, our most talented creative player cannot stay healthy. When he's on, he's fantastic. The reality is that those fantastic moments are few and far between due to injuries and being out of form. Gio Reyna, probably the most technically gifted player in the pool cannot stay healthy, and cannot get a consistent run of games. Chris Richards, is young and growing into a top centerback. Alex Freeman, is still young and growing. Has a high ceiling Tyler Adams, when healthy he's excellent Weston McKennie, indispensable for the USMNT. Goalkeeper: not good. Freese is still young, but that Belgium game will likely haunt him. Matt Turner..... not the answer (not good at organizing the defense, poor distribution). That's the reality.
And players like Pepi, Aaronson, and McKenzie didn’t make for impressive depth despite the clubs and leagues they represent. Kind of casts doubt on the idea the coach should be scouring even lower levels of Europe for answers.
Mostly agree other than that Balogun and Reyna were pretty solid against Belgium. Also, Balogun is certainly good enough to play for England--he's arguably better than England's not-Harry-Kane striker.
He was being played out of position on the left wing. Supported by Trusty as a left back (very good CB, but so support on the left wing) and Berhalter at LCM (Berhalter can strike a great ball but cannot combine). Weah was left on an island out of position and wasn’t up to the challenge. Poch’s player selections and positioning were the downfall.
