It is a combo of ManU mini packs and Keller. The hype has really been on for Keller's last regular season match for a couple weeks now.
Actually, because of the scheduling of the remaining games, I feel it is more likely than unlikely. Seattle has 3 games left, LA has 2. The first three of those five are played in the following chronological order Seattle Phili Seattle San Jose LA Chivas Because of this chronological order, as long as Seattle does not lose to Phil, the Seattle San Jose will still have supporter shield implications as there is no way for LA to wrap it by themselves before the Seattle San Jose game. Personally I think it is more likely than unlikely but maybe you have a strong feeling that Seattle will lose to Phili at home this weekend which would then wrap it up for LA..
If Seattle take the Supporters Shield from LA then i will consider Suicide...thats how strong i feel of LA winning the SS !!! and JK about Suicide!
I think that is pretty unlikely but we are not discussing that point. We are discussing whether Seattle will still be in the Supporters Shield race come the San Jose game.
Looks like you are right. I didn't look at the order of games. Seattle winning the supporter's Shield though seems highly unlikely, while they probably will still be mathematically in it going into the San Jose game, I don't think they'll win it.
agreed. it is a long shot at best. And looking at how run down they are, they may not even start a full lineup against Phili, which might seal the deal even before the San Jose game.
I'm more worried about the San Jose game. Since the start of CCL on 7/26, the Sounders are 0W-1D-2L after a week rest and 12W-1D-2L on 3-4 days rest. For whatever reason the Sounders seem to thrive on playing two games a week. That being said, they won't be running out a full roster. Montero is on a yellow card suspension, Rosales is still recovering from his knee injury and might be held back another week and Fernandez was pulled from the USOC final at halftime due to a minor concussion. That's 30G and 28A, in all competitions, that might be missing from the Sounders line-up. On the plus side, that does leave players 38G and 37A, in all competitions, still available to Sigi.
Things are really healthy for the sport attendance wise MLS is having by far its best year. The WFC this summer had great attendances almost every game The Gold Cup had great attendances And this fall, almost every week another college is setting a new attendance record.
Doesn't Seattle have to win out to have a chance to take the Supporters Shield? If they draw once and win twice then they would match LA's 64 point total. LA owns the tiebreak with the head to head results.
Almost. Seattle has to win out but if that happens LA can lose the shield if it has one draw and one loss in its final two games.
I am trying to think of the largest attended non gimmick (double/triple header, concert, fire works etc) games. Two seem to stand out in my memory. LA's very first game which drew 69,255 and Beck's first visit to NY drew 66,237. Any one remember any others higher that were non gimmick?
The biggest non-doubleheader MLS crowds have been posted in previous MLS attendance threads, though I don't bookmark threads so I can't tell you exactly which one it was. It would be interesting to have the list posted back up here at some point before Seattle's last match. I think the Galaxy's first game ever is at the top, but CenturyLink Field is smaller than that (67,000) so Seattle's match can't quite make it to first.
I have no idea which ones are gimmicks, so someone with more knowledge than me will need to point them out, but here is a list of the games that are over 55k. Code: MatchDate HomeTeam AwayTeam Total 8/6/2006 CD Chivas USA New England 92650 6/16/1996 Los Angeles Tampa Bay 92216 8/10/2005 CD Chivas USA Los Angeles 88816 7/4/1999 San Jose DC United 73123 8/9/2006 Houston Los Angeles 70550 4/13/1996 Los Angeles New York 69255 8/18/2007 New York Los Angeles 66237 7/4/1996 Los Angeles New England 62703 8/8/2009 San Jose Columbus 61572 7/4/2002 Colorado Chicago 61202 7/4/2001 Colorado DC United 60500 7/4/1999 Los Angeles Miami 60433 7/4/2003 Colorado Kansas City 60142 5/24/2006 New York Dallas 59425 4/20/1997 New England Tampa Bay 57407 5/23/1998 New York Miami 56404 7/4/2002 Los Angeles San Jose 55234 I'm taking a wild stab that all the July 4 are fireworks.
Wasnt that Chivas game part of a Mama Goats game afterwords? The Houston/LA was a doubleheader with America and Barcelona.
Ok so that leaves just one game to remove, the Chivas Gal game, which was almost certain to be a double header so that leaves us where we started with my first post. The largest attended non gimmick game was the LA home opener in 1996. Century Link max is 67k according to Wiki so the 1996 LA game looks safe.
Apparently I'm going have to drag out that dead horse and beat it on the whole "July 4th is a gimmick" issue. If designing a good event and marketing well is a gimmick, doesn't that apply to all games?
Disagree. Compared to a normal game, it is absolutely a different type of event. This is why you see so many July 4 games on the list of highest attended games. Not as much of an issue now since many teams are in a SSS.
