Re: FieldTurf. If Clint think's its good enough, with 2 reconstructed knees, that's a good sign. Of course he was only on it for 60 minutes, but still, a good sign.
Is it me, or am I the only one the thinks Metro paid to get that insert into the paper. It just seems like a 6 page advertisement to me. It's great and all, but I'd feel a lot better knowing the press truly cared about this team/league
My first thought too but out of the eight pages, 5 have half page advertising, much of which is soccer-geared. Page 8 is a MetroStars color, full page ad. So regardless of whether Metro initiated the pullout, it was probably fully supported by ads. I am not familiar with ad rates but it may even be possible that the non-Metro ads covered the cost making the full-pager a freebie. In any event it is a respectable pullout not dissimilar to what the Ledger produces for the other four major sports. (smaller but the other sports cover 2-3 local teams plus Philly.) In NYC, I have seen the Ledger in Penn Station and at the Port Authority for those interested.
That would not surprise me. I think they did it in the past ('99) when they payed a paper to write an article on Hurtado and how intimidating he was to play against... whatever. This league will have to exist through another couple of generations before the press gives it coverage like any of the other big 4 sports.
