http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/08/08/mls-reveals-new-set-standings-tiebreakers-12-season 1) Most total goals scored 2) Greatest goal differential 3) Fewest disciplinary points 4) Most road goals scored 5) Greatest road goal differential 6) Most home goals scored 7) Greatest home goal differential 8) Coin toss (for 2 teams) or drawing of lots (3 or more teams)
If 2 teams are tied on goals, and tied on road goals, would they not be tied on home goals? If 2 teams are tied on goal differential, and tied on road goal differential, would they not also be tied on home goal differential? Does that not make #6 and #7 useless? Unless they are setting up the Galaxy, who play road games vs. Chivas at home?
So when I initially saw this I was wondering why they announce quite an important aspect of the league when it is already half way through. Then I read on facebook that these had been agreed before the season started with the teams....but I can not find any confirmation of that. Still awarding what is basically an extra point to teams that score goals is, in my opinion, a reasonable reward for "attacking play". i.e. entertainment?
You're right. Let me rephrase. #1 is enough to eliminate the Crew. No need for the rest when we're involved.
Where it starts to look really good for us is a little lower on the list: 18) General manager golf handicap (lower of 2 advance) 19) Sideline reporter dress size (lower of 2 advance) 20) Aggregate weight of total stadium hotdogs and bratwursts sold in season (higher of 2 advance)
What's really amazing with getting down this far on the list, is that there would have to be a tie for #8! But hey! If anyone can pull a tie out of that, Robert "The Ghost of Andrulis" Warzycha can!
