The list of players eligible for the All Star voting was released today. Each team nominated 6 players and the voting starts tomorrow. It's interesting to see who the Quakes nominated:

    Wondo
    Lenhart
    Baca
    Chavez
    Beitashour
    Busch

I think 4 of the 6 are obvious (Wondo, Lenhart, Chavez and Beitashour). As for Busch and Baca, I can't say I disagree, but I do think an argument could be made for Morrow and Dawkins in their place. I think Bernardez would have been a clear choice and Salinas would have also been considered if they had played more.

For those who argue that Dawkins is clearly a much better player than Baca, I think the fact that Baca got nominated and Dawkins did not says that Yallop (or the media, its not clear who picked the 6 players per team, but last year it was the media) disagree with you! Or at least they disagree who has played better so far this year.

As for which Quakes players really deserve to make the team, I think Wondo (obviously) deserves it, and I also think that Chavez and Beitashour should at least be in the mix. I don' think Busch has played well enough this year to be seriously considered, and while Lenhart has played well there are just too many really good forwards to see him making the team. I'd say the same thing for Baca - he's had a very nice year, and congrats to him for being nominated from the Quakes, but that's about as close as he'll get to being an All star.

For comparison, the 6 guys nominated last year were Wondo, Busch, Hernandez, Convey, Dawkins and Stephenson. This year the Quakes seem to have more guys who are deserving of consideration, which is not a surprise given how well the team has played.

Is Dawkins eligible? Maybe a loaned player isn't?

He was nominated last year, he's definitely eligible.

Meh, apples to oranges, completely different players, both of them good, and both of whom should probably at least be in the conversation regarding an all-star ballot appearance. Apples to oranges in terms of style as I mentioned, but as outside mids, Dawkins has probably been the better orange to Baca's apple. But Baca played very well in the center earlier in the season.

I don't have a major gripe with the Quakes list. My first thought was that I was going to be pissed if Chavez wasn't on there.

    Gordan as super sub?

    Here is my thoughts:

    Wondo - No brainer!
Lenhart - We are one of the leading scoring teams in the league, but I don't think that he has been quite consistent enought. I would say - No.
Baca - No. Good season. No All Star quality.
Chavez - Yes. Has been a terror on the offense side while providing great support in defense.
Beitashour - I'm going to say yes. He has been great in defense (except for a couple of goals) and has been mostly consistent in the attack with several great assists.
Busch - No. He has had a couple of good saves, but overall, his distribution has been poor and he has been shaky on balls in the area (costing a game against Houston).

Wondo, Chavez, and Beta get my votes. Realistically - Wondo and Chavez will be in.

Baca?? I really, really, do not get it...

I think Beita has a good shot of making the squad. A lot of people around the league have been talking about him this year, even mentioned in the USMNT pool. I think Wondo and Beita will (should?) get the votes. Chavez maybe, there's a lot of competition at that spot.

I would rather that none of them made the squad. While it is nice to be recognized, there is the risk of injury. The oppurtinty to get some rest going into the second half that would be more beneficial.

dead on for me, it would be pretty lousy if Beita didnt get in, he and Myers have been the best right backs in the league pretty handily

I voted for all of RSL's players, I want them tired, ineffective and possible injured.

Vote for Alonso. He is liable to hurt even his own teammates!

it's weird that field players are listed randomly so that it is difficult to find people. Why didn't they sort them by position or team? It takes too long to vote more than once. It's as bad as the California Primary election!

Imagine if the current Quakes team had DeRo. As a defense, how would you like DeRo, Dawkins, and Chavez running at you, with Wondo and Lenhart to pick up the scraps?

His tendency to score into the double digits would be the most beneficial, in my mind. Our midfielders haven't put up that many goals so far, which isn't necessarily bad, but any time you can add a guy who can create and bury a bunch himself, well, I think it's called a win-win.

Yeah, and this year in particular he's really racking up the assists too. That's been a hallmark of his - he gets lots of assists and lots of goals.

I'm not sure they should let fans vote on this anymore. Both Beckham and Donovan made it on the list for midfielders and the Galaxy are a sub .500 hundred team. There aren't any midfielders out there who have been better? Like, I don't know, Beckerman or Pappa or Rivero? Effin' A, man, I don't want to watch an LA Galaxy advertisement for 90 minutes when I should be watching the players who have actually played the best during the season.

I voted for the two Quakes who made it each of the times the email from MLSSoccer.com enticed me to cast a ballot. I agree that two names stand out as undeserving - Beckham and Donovan. But beyond that, it's a pretty solid list.

Yeah, Chavez is more deserving even than Beita, but the competition is a lot tougher at midfield relative to right back.
