No MLS next summer? At least that's what an e-mail from ESPN told me. The WNBA--for a guy... Looking for a sport that has game, no millionaire-player disputes, and the best uniforms around? The WNBA is for you. Besides all that, it might be the only major sport around next summer, so jump on the bandwagon now and be cooler than your friends. Now, if we could only do something about the team nicknames... WNBA on ESPN If the WNBA qualifies as a "major sport"...well I think the MLS should too
Re: No MLS next summer? This is the key part to this email. ABC just signed a contract with WNBA (as a condition of getting the NBA I believe) and ALL of these games will be on ESPN (or more likely the Deuce). They're desperate for viewers and sent out this email to try and convince you its acceptable to watch the WNBA. It's not. Any man who watches the WNBA has already been castrated and really isn't a man. Now if MLS had a "big brother" organization that demanded they be part of their TV contract, you would see the same type of emails. So don't worry about it. A basketball league where the players can't even dunk is not a major sport and the folks at ESPN realize this.
Though it is offensive that the WNBA is considered a "major sport" by ESPN's marketing robots, in spite of declining TV ratings and nose-diving attendance.
usagoal, Don't start threads saying "No MLS Next Summer?" on the News and Analysis board. ************. GPK
Looking at the sports which are emerging today like the Arena Football League (AFL), Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the Major League Soccer (MLS), I would say that Major League Soccer has the best chance of becoming the next major professional sport behind Major League Baseball (MLB), National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Hockey League (NHL).
With latest crowds in the A-League, MLS fans better starter to worry about themeselves. 25,000 Seattle Sounders Portland Timbers 6,500 Minnesota 7,000 Montreal 7,000 Rochester just under 10,000 Vancouver close to a selling out a small stadium I think the A-League its taken the advantage of the USA national team success better then the MLS. I see some of the bigger owners pushing for a top A-League division in the near future. Don't be surprise if the Tampa Bay Rowdies are back in 2003.
Arggggghhhhhh AFL, WNBA, and MLS are not sports. Please use the English and/or American English languages properly.
Arrgghhh is right. I don't believe in nitpicking or correcting typos, ect. But making this mistake over and over again is annoying.
That's assuming there will be a next. I've always felt the NHL has a tenuous grasp on the "Major" label to begin with. NBA, on the other hand, has firmly become a top league. Arena football isn't really trying to be a major league, but has been remarkably successful. I'm surprised at how quickly the league has taken off. It's great for the players and fans. Now we've got a from of minor league football Given the talent level, it's pretty high quality entertainment, though I'm not much of a gridiron fan.
I mene if your gonne come on to a Analysis board, the good way to make a bad impersonation is to make uncoherent phrasing. Or imcomprehensile subjects. The occaisional typo is one thing, but butchering the grammer of you're premise is a great way to get ridiculed or best yet ingnoured.
usagoal is quoting the ESPN e-mail. Ges. Is it a major league then? ************. Who cares what ESPN says anyway. Chip, please remove yourself from my shoulder.
nah, tis good to show passion... something not involved (imo) in arena football or the wnba by the fans i mean, sure some people will show up to an arena football match for the hitting... but no one is really going to give a rat's ass about who wins and loses mls is great, because the fans are intense... and intensity is contagious... so keep the chip
Hey, I go to Arena football whenever I have the chance. And no, I certainly don't watch the game. Have you seen the babes they've got dancing around at those games? Holy smokes!
