Close. I think the trademark for the Pontiac Firebird had expired, and they snapped it up for the '98 season. ::edit:: And I see that section107 covered it much better (and factually, too).
So cool info on the pre-96 promo crest. I had no idea about that, having moved here in 1997 and immediately starting going to games and picking up a half season, sitting in the Choir. I was flabbergasted at what got for this merch release. Nike and Reebok kits were knocked off. It was interesting to see the variances in what teams got, like LA got that satin jacket that no one else got. Some teams got more than 1 jersey. the short sleeve hoodie was weird for everyone, but I'd have broken the bank on this merch release had they not shit the bed so badly.
True, but apparently the one I got for $5 after the game (and no longer had) would have been one of the only examples remaining of the original logo, and therefore worth about $12.50
They need to make a canvas banner like these. And yes, I'm going to start an etsy store. I expect many internet nuts will purchase.
I'd buy that for a dollar....! (actually, more) [watch out for leviathan's copyright/trademark lawyers, though; it seems even mitchell and ness, who already have relationships with DCU and MLS, couldn't get approval.]
