I'm not really sure what to make of the survey. We probably shouldn't make too much of it. Too bad our tv ratings are so much lower than more widely hated sports leagues like WWE, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

Don't know why they have bullfighting, dogfighting or Pro wrestling in the survey. However the most intersting part of the survey is discussed at the end of the article:

That's what I was thinking. If they're going to have dogfighting in the survey, they might as well have midget tossing. Or serial killing. Or poo eating.

I'd be interested in knowing what percentage of people liked MLS.

Oh, and thread title is misleading. Read the survey results more closely, and you'll see that MLS isn't the 8th most hated league. It's the most hated league. Those things that are more hated aren't really leagues.

They may not be leagues in name but leagues are just one big official organization for the pro form of the sport & that's what they are.

people hate nascar? i'm so suprised.

Well, I guess I think of leagues as the organizational structure for team sports. I see your point, though.

If people hate sports that have violence and fake violence, and they hate soccer, that doesn't bode well for this league.

Why isn't competitive eating on here? It's apparently become a sport now. Hotdogs, pies, etc. Big money, apparently.

What about Slamball?!? Or competitive chess? These are more popular sports?

    Must be yes.

any list that has pro wrestling as number 2 on the hate list is not worthy of me even considering it!

who cares about that redneck nascar crap? now soccer is a different story ;)

I agree. And it competes with MLS to a point (ie ratings, etc), so down with nascrap.

Hemingway said Auto Racing and Bull Fighting are two of the only 3 true sports, everything else is just a game...

That would explain why Hemingway was the 3rd most hated prolific writer behind Stephen King and Danielle Steele in a recent CNN poll.

    kidding :)

Hemingway obviously had never been inside an Arcade. Auto racing is the game, not soccer.

Nascar doesn't 'compete' with MLS for ratings...Nascar kicks the piss out of MLS in the ratings.....

Big fan of both but, MLS is worlds behind in popularity.

It's not a sport unless it's played with a ball [or puck].

As wonderful as track & field may be, it's just a collection of skills.

As much as some people may like wrestling, it's just a show.

    Flame away. :)

    I haven't seen the 'sport' argument in a while...and I'm a little bored.

sport ( P ) Pronunciation Key (spôrt, sprt)
    n.

*Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
*An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
    *An active pastime; recreation.

Nascar (and auto racing in general) takes a hell of a lot of physical exertion and skill.....it has a set of rules and is competitive....

Its a sport...and a great one at that.

I think what Mario meant is that at least Formula One has some strategy and is more interesting cuz every circuit is unique. Meanwhile with NECKCRAP you just put the pedal to the metal and make left turns for 4 hours!

But why do the MLS boards have to spend so much time talking about commerical-obsessed American games/sports when all that matters is soccer??

There is a huge difference between racing Bristol and racing Daytona......

You can love soccer without putting down racing....
