Remember this guy? Guess moving back home didn't cure what ails him. He's Can't Get Right. Sources: CF Montréal has agreed deal to acquire American attacking midfielder Caden Clark from Minnesota United.Montréal still see potential in Clark and plan to use him at AM. Minnesota clears roster space as they continue to evolve squad https://t.co/INP9FZzCx6— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) August 7, 2024
Montreal is a mess! Last season, they traded Kamal Miller (starts at CB for Canada MNT) and 1.3 million (!) GAM for Bryce Duke and Ariel Lassiter. They wanted Duke to be their ten. Yeah, no. Now Clark. Yeah, no.
Hopefully Montreal does for him what it did for Djordje. I remember going into the MLS Flavors thread two years ago he wasnt A flavor, he was THE flavor going into the season. Him and Cade. Cade really had a strong opening campaign too but Caden never got going.
Caden Clark's one of the biggest disappointments we've ever had (up until this point). There's the occasional guy who shows a lot at the beginning, but doesn't amount to that much in the end. Cowell's a less extreme case. I'd give shouts to Amobi Okugo & Jonathan Campbell. Not as high of potential, but look great for a yr or two, & then kind of disappear. Brek Shea & Eddie Gaven are in there because they were high potential guys like Cade & Caden. But if they had as good of careers as either at this point, I think we'd be pleased, so not busts per se. Adu's obviously the classic case. TBH I never bought much into it because of the lack of physical tools and the questions about his age.
Recently MLS products are not doing too good after moving to Europe (originally produced in South America as exceptions). So far only Alphonso Davis lives up the expectation.
Clark scored a couple flashy goals at 16 but never showed reliable above average passing or dribbling skills in MLS. He also doesn't find tap ins like a Muller, so his early xG overperformance was just a hot streak. Maybe he would have settled without the appendectomy, lots of young players operate on instinct and struggle to recapture that after a long injury layoff.
I saw this article by Doyle on the candidates for this year's 22 under 22: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/22-under-22-which-rising-stars-lead-the-pack I haven't watched any MLS games this year (for the first ever), so I don't have any idea how accurate his analysis is, but some things I found interesting: --"In the final four transfer windows of the 2010s, MLS was 16th in total expenditures and 24th in total revenue from player sales. In the past eight transfer windows (including this one), MLS is eighth in total expenditures and 13th in total revenue." --Luna is in contention for the top spot in the rankings for him. --Even though Brady's xG numbers aren't as good, he's gotten a lot better on crosses and generally controlling his box, even though the Fire are bad again. --Neal needs to get stronger and meaner, and if he does, he'll be an eight-figure transfer to Europe. --Tsakiris is the next generation McGlynn in terms of the good and bad. --Bajraktarevic clearly has skill but still no end product and might not make the list for Doyle. --Akinmboni has the highest upside of US-eligible CBs in the league. --"Every club in the world" is keeping an eye on Berchimas.
I still want a team to throw the bank at vicinius jr because dude is at his mental breaking point in Spain with the racism. Exactly the sort of player we should be pulling out all the stops for and bending MLS rules for
Something always seemed off with Caden. Not gonna blame him for the appendectomy but after that he fell out with New York and was sent back to them as Leipzig didn't feel he was ready, fought to earn a place but by his own admission he and Strueber never had a great relationship. Once he went to Europe his work permit was delayed ending any chance of a loan. Had a couple Eredivisie loans on the table (one being Twente) that just fell through. Came back to Minnesota but signed for a coach that got fired. Always something seemed to pop up. Now that being said I've heard his attitude hasn't always been the best and that even in u 20 camps he had the attitude he made it once he signed with Leipzig
I'm kinda surprised Doyle is so high on Reed since he was out for quite awhile with a hamstring injury (last season and it bled into this season somewhat). He honestly should be starting over Nouhou and at least once a game playing as lb or winger he just eliminates a defender with good 1v1 abilities and can pass very well. I'd be shocked if he's still with Seattle in 18 months (Vargas too but he doesn't matter to the US setup anymore) as even before the injuries big clubs were sniffing around him. He also looks way less athletic than he actually is.
Saudi Arabia is trying. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...inicius-junior-considering-saudi-offer-source Real Madrid has said they have meet his billion dollar release clause if they want him.
Yamal also apparently has roughly the same release clause. Apparently there’s no requirement in Spain that you have a specific amount, but if you don’t it otherwise would get determined by a third party arbiter. I think clubs are setting it so high now to avoid having a repeat of the Neymar and PSG.
JMorris with 2 goals (one lefty and a pen that he earned himself) against Pumas. All the other Leagues Cup matches are tomorrow for some reason.
Just my unprofessional opinion. Luna, yes. Not a strong U-22 year though. Brady still playing as a talented kid, still atrocious feet. He will go to Europe, but he isn't eight figure transfer. Absolutely no similarity between Tsakiris and McGlynn. Next generation Bassett maybe. Esmir is a year away from being a good MLS player. Akinmboni, yes. Berchimas oy vey. He played 21 minutes. 2 years away from the point where anyone should watch him. And not a fact that they will like what they see then.

I thought Steffen was good v LAFC even though they scored 4 goals. Not sure he could should have been expected to stop any of them. interested in what the stats say. I hope that Poch takes a look at Long, still a very athletic 1v1 defender and has improved his passing and confidence on the ball.
I suspect that the difference between Long’s club and national team passing is that he knows where his out balls are better with club teammates. And you’re right, he’s still a top athlete.
