Austin winning both matches against Pumas and Rayados has to be way up there in terms of upsets. They defended heroically (down a man against Pumas for a large chunk of the match) and did what they needed to in front of goal. If they can parlay this into not sucking for the last third of the season they could sneak into the playoffs but it's absolutely not sustainable long term. Also, DSC for Minnesota setting records for saves against Necaxa (they went up 1-0 really early and then got a red card immediately). He's going to be annoying to deal with as Canada's number 1 for the next 10 years.
This might be a win-win for everyone. The Crew are title contenders, and Jones gives them a long term player at the wingback spot that is super important to how Nancy likes to play. I wonder who, between Arfsten, Farsi and Jones rides the bench when all three are healthy? As for New England, the difference here is $600k in salary plus $600k in GAM. If Peyton Miller is close enough -- and he might be -- then you grab a good cheap piece in Sands and can reallocate that cash to other positions. The only thing for New England is that Miller probably isn't all that long for New England if he performs.
I think this local article basically gets the rationale right. Revolution agree to trade DeJuan Jones to Columbus Crew (boston.com) There's a reason that clubs like New England are bad. They had just signed him to a lucrative contract extension in January, and now they've traded him for salary cap space/roster flexibility months later. Make it...............make sense. From what I've seen on social media, NE fans HATE the deal. NE has a ton of players on expiring contracts and expiring contracts w/options. Nick Lima, Ryan Spaulding, Bobby Wood & Damian Rivera will become Free Agents. They have no club options. The contracts of Xavier Arreaga, Emmanuel Boateng, Dylan Borrero, Brandon Bye, Andrew Farrell, Nacho Gil, Ian Harkes, Tommy McNamara, Jonathan Mensah, Matt Polster, Dave Romney, & Earl Edwards Jr. also expire, however, they all have club options. This has the look of a first step to a significant rebuild in New England. .
here are the basics: the Krafts dont give a rat's arse about the Revs. They are just keeping the vendors busy outside of the Patriots season. Why else on earth would they play soccer on a coffee stained, used condom strewn, flithy rug? The field is something out of the 1980s. Every soccer fan in NE would like the Krafts to be forced to sell the Revs. Robert Kraft will then have more money for his visits to the Lotus Spa.
They literally just got a bill passed to build a new soccer-specific stadium in Everett, basically in Boston.

There's a LOT of local skepticism about that ever happening. They've gotten over one initial political hurdle. There's literally a whole section on the Revs' wikipedia page detailing all of the plans for a SSS, going way back to 2006. There's good reason for Revs fans to say "I'll believe it when I see it." Local folks say the Revs can't win because of the Krafts. Well, the Revs literally won the Supporters Shield in 2021 under Bruce Arena. Then something happened with Arena. He was fired, and the whole damn thing unraveled with rapid speed. Nothing has seemed right in Revs-land since. They actually have a nice group of young, homegrown players for an organization that isn't in a particularly great homegrown territory.
Results were more mixed in the Leagues Cup last night in the Liga MX versus MLS games. Some good and some bad. DCU 3 Santos Laguna 0 Charlotte 0 Cruz Azul 0 (Charlotte won on penalties) Juarez 2 Dallas 0 Mazatlan 2 Nashville 0 Inter Miami has officially advanced after the result from the Tigres/Puebla game. Philly has officially advanced after the draw between Charlotte and Cruz Azul. DCU has advanced after their win. The Galaxy have advanced after beating San Jose. Dallas' loss meant St. Louis advanced. So we are racking up some places in the knockouts. From a USMNT perspective, not much of interest in the games last night. One of the goals for DC was Ku-DiPietro. Ebobisse scored a goal for San Jose in their loss to the Galaxy.
You, skeptical? I think this is different. This is like the NYCFC stadium. Everyone said the same things, but there's clear political momentum this time. The only real barrier is going to annoyance lawsuits. Getting it cleared through the legislature is something that takes a ton of work and effort. No one just does it on a lark.
As this article says...............the current legislation does not authorize the construction of the stadium, but enables it as a possibility. A technicality, but true nonetheless. Revolution stadium proposal gets boost from Mass. Senate (boston.com) Revs fans are extremely skeptical. There have been proposals like that since 2006. Nothing gets off the ground. There are a lot of problems with the proposal. Most notably that the land is the site of a decommissioned power plate. It is extremely contaminated.
Revs fans are sick of being Charlie Brown kicking the football. We all say, believe it when we see it.
Well, you guys are right -- though I think this is less the Revs backing off than the lawmakers: https://www.boston.com/sports/new-e...08/01/revolution-stadium-bill-everett-status/
MLS says there are ‘no plans’ to bring expansion team to Indianapolis soon (wrtv.com) BOOOO, BOOO THIS MAN

Valenzuela is one not getting enough credit for his performance this year. More good work from the Cincinnati front office. They brought him into their academy from Inter Miami and signed him to a homegrown deal. But anyway....................most of the Leagues Cup knockout phase participants have been set. St. Louis, Houston, Portland, Colorado, LAG, Seattle, Vancouver, San Jose, LAFC, Austin, Cincinnati, Montreal, Philly, DCU, Orlando, NYCFC, Toronto, Miami, SKC, and Columbus have already advanced. As of right now the knockout phase will have 10 Liga MX clubs and 20 MLS clubs. I'd say Monterrey and Chivas were the two big eliminations in the group phase. Two spots left, and it'll be decided tonight. New England plays Nashville at Gilette with Mazatlan the other contender. That one may end up with 3 teams tied on 3 points. So we'll see how the tiebreakers go.
I guess I wasn't paying attention to the League's Cup format this year. So lose your first game and you're out?
There was an initial group phase that's finishing tonight. Now a knockout round of those advanced teams (along with automatically qualified America and Columbus) starting with a round of 32. Yes, single elimination from now on. Some interesting matchups.
I think FC Dallas is now Philadelphia Union west. They passed them up. Hopefully this is a healthy rotation and more teams can join in on the party
