Was there any inkling he was leaning to them? I get being upset but he was an injury away and rules are more relaxed for replacements now.

His quotes don’t indicate anything other than that he’s open to playing for them. None of his quotes in that article were inflammatory or anything like that. At the same time, though, he’s been given a ton of opportunities with the U.S. Getting cut from one team and immediately starting to talk about changing allegiances is not a good look imo.

He didn’t sound upset, he seems to have a cool head about it. All I got from that is he’s not US or bust, he’ll go where the opportunity arises.

He was probably asked a direct question, I doubt he offered this off the cuff.

You’re probably right, but that doesn’t mean he had to answer it, or answer it that way.

He didn’t have to be honest, that’s true, but I won’t drag him for it, especially when his answer was measured and not vindictive.

He doesn't say anything there that most dual-nationals don't say.
Leaving the door open for opportunities.

Worth noting that playing in the Olympics wouldn't have permanently cap-tied him anyway.

WS US-eligible Players of the Week
    * = U23

    LB: Duncan(8.0)2nd Miller(7.9)MOTM* Vines(7.9)1st
    CB: Parker(7.2)3rd
    RB: Lennon(7.4)3rd Kikanovic(7.2)1st Arriola(7.1)1st Shelton(7.1)2nd
    CM: Bassett(7.7)2nd Delgado(7.7)4th Flach(7.6)4th* Zawadski(7.2)1st Q.Sullivan(7.2)8th* Dotson(7.1)6th Watts(7.0)4th
    LM: Lewis(7.6)3rd Berhalter(7.2)2nd*
    FW: Wood(7.0)3rd

Player of the Week: Kyle Duncan
    U23: Peyton Miller

If Duncan could pass, he would be in the Top-5
16 y/o Peyton Miller had a sensational debut start
Bobby Wood is only 31. It's the pity the injuries took such a toll.
Bassett is the type of athletic, energetic 8 the US Olympic team could use.

    I don't think Ronald Donkar is US-eligible.

New York Red Bulls Sign Ghanaian Midfielder Ronald Donkor | New York Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls have signed Ghanaian midfielder Ronald Donkor to a four-year MLS contract through 2026 with an option for 2027, the club announced today. Donkor will occupy an international spot on the Red Bulls roster.

Zardes with a slick finish against Pumas last night. Timely one too, putting Austin up by two while they were down a man.

Zardes is treated very badly on these boards.

The most capped player in USMNT history to never go to the World Cup.

The guy may not be elite international quality but has had a long career in the sport.

He's now 10th all-time in MLS career goals. He recently passed Dwayne De Rosario.
Currently 2 behind Jason Kreis for #9.

I hope Gyasi gets into coaching. He seems to have a great personality and it always seemed obvious that he has a high soccer IQ.

His problem was that he just lacked the ability to do what his mind was trying to tell him to do.

Not until he learned from Donovan and Keane, that totally changed him as a player. Of course, his personality made him that good student.

Donovan and Keane were already at LAG when Zardes started with them. Before that he was at Ventura County Fusion (where I highly doubt you were watching him play).

Well, he's now one of only 13 players in MLS history with 100 goals.

But of course, the list of domestic players with more than 100 goals is mostly a list of fringe USMNTers. Other than Donovan..

Its Wondolowski, Jeff Cunningham, Ante Razov, Jason Kreis, Gyasi Zardes, Taylor Twellman, and Edson Buddle

So we aaaaalllll get it. To get to 100 goals, you have to be good enough to be a good player in the league for long time..............but also not good enough to go to Europe/Mexico/etc. There were persistent rumors of Zardes and a league on the level of Belgium, but it never happened. Genk or something like that.

There’s less and less reason for a guy to go anywhere but the bigger leagues. Gyasi has a wife and kids and made good money in MLS. Genk is a good step for a 20 year old. Zardez didn’t really get into a groove until about 26.

Yes, but his soccer IQ was non existing. For unknown reasons he also had seen himself as a super skilled player, prior to been screamed by Donovan and Keane on a regular basis.

The sad part is we haven't had a US-eligible golden boot winner in MLS since 2012. :(

Zardes was never close. His most recent high goalscoring season was 2018, and Josef Martinez still kicked his butt.

Jesus getting 18 was pretty close and Dallas didn’t have a PK all year.

    Great pickup by the Crew.
...........and its officially Peyton Miller time for New England. The Revs are last place in the East. This sure seems like waiving the white flag on 2024 and clearing some cap space. Giving an exciting young player the rest of the season.

I don't know what's going on, but MLS is again getting the better of Liga MX in the Leagues Cup so far.

    Montreal 3 San Luis 2
    Minnesota 1 Necaxa 0
    Austin 2 Monterrey 0
Pachuca 1 NYRB 1 (Puchaca wins on penalties)
Vancouver 2 LAFC 2 (Vancouver wins on penalties)

Right now four teams have officially advanced to the knockouts (to join Columbus and America on automatic berths). Austin advances out of a group with both Monterrey and Pumas!! LAFC advances out of a group with Tijuana and Vancouver. TFC and Pachuca advance after NYRB was eliminated by a hair on penalties.

Today we have four more MLS versus Liga MX games.

The play of the day last night was Owen Wolff of all people slicing and dicing his way thru Monterrey.
