I have a question for the Kansas City crowd. Tim Howard just posted this: https://www.facebook.com/timhoward/posts/10155207369734122 My question: At that stadium, is it actually possible "for an apparently drunk fan to get inches away from an athlete’s face"? -- Judging from pictures, it does not seem possible at either end.
He's probably talking about the incident after the game where a drunk fan was able to approach him as he exited the field and Howard choked him and/or put his hand on the guy's neck to push him away.
I heard grabbed, not choking/by the neck but yeah. Apparently some fan in a VIP section near the tunnel got into his face as he was leaving the field.
My only issue with Howard's statement is that MLS, particularly Howard's team, has struggled walking that line between appropriate security and heavy-handed destruction of atmosphere. I don't yet trust the majority of owners (or more specifically the security services they contract out to) to get it right if they decide to hand down stricter standards. That doesn't mean players should have to live with what Howard describes, just that what he wants is going to cause a number of problems before a new normal is settled on.
When you use the term "With that being said", you negate everything you said before that. "I apologize. With that being said, here's a bunch of reasons to try to justify me not being at fault for acting like an asshole."
The good people of Ontario barely paying attention to tonight's match as the Wolfpack gear up for their big Rugby League Challenge Cup game at Salford Red Devils on Sunday.
Is it OK for Tim Howard to get inches away from Dom Dwyer's face, point his finger threateningly in his eye, and apparently shout obscenities at him? Look, I don't know what happened on Howard's way out after the game. I do know that I see a lot of games in all sports where the fans can get very close to the athletes. Obviously it is always a security concern - anyone remember what happened to Monica Seles? But Howard lost control of himself in this game. I'm 100% sure that if he wouldn't have lost control of himself during and after the game, either nothing would have happened or it wouldn't have been nearly as severe. And his asides to "10% of the season" and saying how he doesn't like being taunted for his race or disability - neither of which, he says, happened in Kansas City - amount to only so many straw men that he appears to be setting up to justify himself and deflect criticism. Not nearly the same, but he's starting to give me Hope Solo vibes.
Hmmm, Harrington just made a nice cross that Nikolic couldn't quite redirect on frame. Chicago fans, I thought he was useless? The Fire came to play so far. Impressive work on the road against a really good Toronto team. Giovinco is so fun to watch. Always always dangerous.
Last time Schweinsteiger and Giovinco played against each other was 2013 CL quarterfinal. Bayern dominated Juve convincingly with 4-0 aggregate. The last time Schweinsteiger and Bradley played against each other was 2014 WC when Germany beat USA 1-0.
Chicago with about 2-3 dangerous crosses in quick succession. This game has the marks of a barnburner so far.
