Jones was hit in the ribs if anything. Cried out like a bitch, covered his face and rolled around. Maybe a hard shot to the upper chest from Donadel's right elbow/arm.
Jones sold it to the ref. Silly Jermaine Jones. Doesn't he know that playing with 10 men is an advantage in MLS?
That was shameful from Jones. Faking a nonexistent face hit to get someone ejected. One of my least favorite players all time. What a disgrace.
That was such a blatant con job that I have to hope Jones is suspended for it next week. There is no excuse for him holding his face while rolling around on the ground.
Yup. I turned the sound off but it is a bit like watching fish in a 10 gallon aquarium - not very interesting...
And in MLS, punishing stuff like that is ALSO part of the game. And as such, the hammer needs to come down on him, as it should on any player who pulls that nonsense. Unlike others here, it is one of the things that I absolutely love about MLS.
Looks like I have not missed much. Got a LONG night of J-League ahead. Mize well get a Serie A nap in. See you jokers tomorrow!
From the replays we know it wasn't. Problem is, every replay we have is the exact opposite view of what the ref's view is. That is the sort of thing that is easily solvable once VAR is implemented.
It's a catch-22. You can't attack on both ends -- players are going to capitalize on the pressure on refs to hand out more reds. Even if you hit Jones with retro suspension -- one team has already played a whole half with 10 men.
If you punished refs every time they made an honest mistake, you couldn't field a full complement of league officials in ANY league, in any sport, from week to week. It's a tough job. Honest mistakes are completely different than guys throwing themselves on the ground, feigning getting kicked, fouled in the box, hit in the face, etc. Punish them harder when they do that stuff and refs won't be in the position of interpreting the behavior as often.
OK, what the hell is going on this season? In 11v10 situations, the 11-man team is outscoring the 10-man team 9-0 on the season. Is MLS turning into a normal soccer league now?
Well I wouldn't punish either. Gamesmanship and all that entails between the lines is part of the game. Some calls go your way, others won't.
