He just strikes me as an MLS version of Chip Kelly. He was gang busters that first season then when everyone had enough tape on him to pinpoint the weaknesses he simply didn't adjust. IMO the sign of a good coach is not how you start but how you adjust to everyone game planning your team after having some success. If Marsch is judged on the same standard as Petke he may get fired if they don't make some noise in the playoffs, IMO he should get fired if they don't even make the playoffs.

And it feels to me like the system has been figured out.

2015: 60 points, SS, lose to Columbus in ECF
2016: 57 points, lose to Montreal in second round
    2017: 42 points (max. 60)

I don't expect anything from this team going forward. They might be able to win a one-off game, but they're ill-equipped to win a two-legged series.

Sadly I think the best option for them if they fire Marsch is Gio Savarese but I don't see how he'd join them after the way they treated him. If they could pull it off though it would be pretty epic for that team.

What other backups have started the final in recent memory? Bryan Sylvestre wasn't eligible to play for Philadelphia in 2015 as he was on loan from the RailHawks - and had been recalled and played in the USOC that season for them.

It's common for backups to get a run in the USOC and even in the group stages of CCL play, but it's also much more common for the starter to return the closer the team gets to hardware.

USOC finals? Brad Knighton started for New England last year, though I think Shuttleworth was hurt.

On a bigger scale? Sergio Romero started over David de Gea in the 2017 Europa League final. David Ospina started over Petr Cech in the 2017 FA Cup final. David Soria (so many Davids) started over Sergio Rico (and Sergios!) in the 2016 Europa League final. Shay Given over Brad Guzan in the 2015 FA Cup final. And so on.

    Repped for this:

I've got to write that down and remember it,

Well, the braintrust behind the Union subbed in their backup goalkeeper for PKs in the 2015 final because they saw it in the World Cup once.

As you can tell, I'm totally over it.

This map shows who gets which FOX game on Sunday. Basically if you are in an NFL market and your team is playing in the early time slot on CBS that's when you get the MLS game. If not, then you get the later MLS game.

At least both games have the potential for lots of goals!

Unless something has changed, I think that's wrong. The SKC PR person mentioned to me that the KC game isn't on FOX in Kansas City.

Speaking of changes. "Los Angeles" is not the "sexy pick" for national TV.

For those of us with a couple of decades of following MLS that is mindboggling.

    Viva Atlanta!

Given started all the FA Cup games that year and had supplanted Guzan as starter the month of May. No way was Guzan getting that start.

I think you are correct. The Chiefs game at 3 pm is locally broadcast on CBS. It is unlikely that the local FOX station would show an NFL game against that so they will probably go with the MLS game at 4 pm.

    Hmmm.
WDAF, the local FOX station, says they are showing the NFL game Atlanta-Detroit at noon locally and the Kansas City-LA game "LIVE" at 4 pm.

    A series of mistakes here.

I realize plans were made months in advance by both leagues, but the we've got KC vs LA in two different SSS on the same day. And that's just weird.

No idea why but the FOX station in Billings is showing the early game: Tampa @ Minnesota.
Maybe there is a local connection. Or they are anti-Seahawks.

With 5ET being 4CT, that means that 1) they're showing Montreal/Atlanta or 2) they're time-shifting the KC game and running it 3 hours behind - possibly after some of the complaints about the KC game not being on TV in KC from the club.
