SKC can win trophies without extra time and penalties? I did not know that.

I think I heard ESPN's imported PxP man claimed that the Red Bulls were still "without a major trophy to their name."

I guess he didn't get to RBNY's two Supporters Shields -- or their La Manga Cup -- in the 10 minutes he spent reviewing the media guide before the game.

You are missing the Emirates Cup where they went to a Champions League club and won the tournament.

He was too busy listening to Twellman say that the Supporters Shield was a major trophy, then that it wasn't, then that it might be, then...

My biggest issue with American announcers. They never shut up. They think they are paid by the word or something.

Shit just got real for the RB's they have a tough game against CLB coming up on short rest and there's a very real chance they may not make playoffs. The need to make sure they don't go into a death spiral after this because not making playoffs when your chances are at 96% is sooooo Metro.

Drumming up fake controversy. It's pretty common for clubs to start the backup in these cup competitions, and a coach allowing the backup to continue through the final is nothing new.

Was there much of an advantage, really? Espinoza had possession, but few if any options. On the other hand, SKC players were not happy with NY's physical play going unchecked. Better to stop play and issue the caution than risk a flare up for a weak advantage.

Nothing like a sweet cup of MetroTears to wake up to this morning.

Tony Meola would have saved both of those goal.

    Good job Wiz!

If you had listened to the whole game, it was covered in the opening minutes.

Taylor Twellman had let on that during his pre-match discussions with Jesse Marsch that Marsch believed the Metros only had two "awards" not trophies.

Therefore it's official. Although if you ask Mike Petke, he would probably say the trophy he won with NY was legitimate.

Eh. The fact that he had to rely on the opinions of Twellman and Marsch speaks volumes.

And what Marsch believes about this is bullshit, anyway. It’s a harder trophy to win than all the others because it’s 34 games, home and away, against MLS teams exclusively. And winning it gets you a berth in the CCL, just like MLS Cup does.

Edit: And in any case, it’s just as “major” as the Open Cup.

While I agree its more difficult then winning the Open cup the SS is more of an award then trophy. I'm a firm believer though that winning it without winning the MLS cup means you just won the biggest choker award. I'm an NHL fan as well and I can tell you as a Rangers fan I didn't care at all when they won the Presidents trophy (the hockey version of the SS) that season they lost to the Kings in the Stanley cup. I want the cup to hell with the regular season trophy.

MLS Cup is awarded to the league champion.

The Supporters Shield is awarded to the team with the best season.

MLS Cup is a bigger trophy. I'd rather win the SS, because it means that 7 months of the season were really fun to watch. Not that I get to be picky.

Not that I'm aware of. I saw a post on MF that went something like "we didn't even have time to finish scratching our heads before Zizzo ********ed us."

If Lawrence wasn't hurt, that's honestly a fireable offense. Even if he was, the move then is to bring on Lade for a straight swap, or drop Adams back to LWB and bring on Veron or Etienne. Zizzo shouldn't be anywhere near the field.

So I'm not trying to troll here, as I mean no offense but Marsch is not a good coach IMO. He's far too rigid and amazingly hardly ever learns from mistakes it seems. He's subbing is also pretty bad as well, I know he doesn't have much attacking wise on the bench but down 2 goals you don't sub out one of your most dangerous players for a bench level player like Zizzo. You also leave a player in Muyl who does jack squat in when Veron could do far more is left on the bench. You'd expect more from someone who went to Princeton and likes to make people think he's SOOOO smart but the results haven't back that up.

I don't see that as trolling at all - you're absolutely correct.

I'd punch a baby to trade him for Vieira.

His reults over his career here have been pretty damn good by MLS coaching standards. The style of play, usage of youth, fast/fun tempo has been a good watch.

I do believe that we have seen enough to question his ability to change. Rigid is a pretty good description IMO. TBF, Veron has done little to breed confidence over these last two and half years. Over 90 he rarely shows up and has done better as a sub. Is it fair to complain about last nights subs...yeah, but not so much IMO to call out Jesse over his tenure.

He is clearly a system coach. Nothing wrong with that...unless you keep falling just short. It means the system is working well, but just not quite well enough. Coming close is more frustrating then when you simply are a mediocrity of a team.
