The Chargers announce ~25,300 as a sellout at Stubhub Center. They seem to use the same configuration as the Galaxy, but they use some of the additional seating that they added, leading me to believe that the capacity for the Galaxy is now ~25,000. I wonder if this is what both teams will go with for next season, or if they will open up the additional seating currently tarped.
45,298 in the playoffs > 45,298 during the season. for three reasons: Shorter time frame to sell the tickets and get people to commit Not a part of a season ticket package. Pricing is higher (I would assume) Of course I would also like to see higher attendance, but trust me these tickets are like pure profit for teams. So even if the numbers are lower they are of much greater value.

^big fall off from 2nd to 3rd on that list.....those two are in a league of their own (attendance-wise).
Although, how much of that is having the capacity to take advantage of the popularity? Where would Toronto be if it had a 40k stadium back when it was in a 21k stadium with a 15k backlog? They obviously burned through that backlog thanks to the years of ineptitude, but it’s an interesting thought experiment.. The same is also true with Portland.
Snap reactions: 1. Minnesota was top 10 in MLS attendance. 2. Portland will be top 5 after they add their new stand. 3. 15k floor for MLS is not too bad. 4. I'm worried about LAG attendance erosion next year, with entry of LAFC. 5. I really want to know two things about FCC's attendance: what proportion of their fan base is comprised of UC students (the stadium is on UC's campus, if I'm not mistaken), and how do those students obtain tickets. Freebies? Discounts? Can they use their student ID cards?
I'm worried about LAG attendance erosion next year, with entry of LAFC. This will be very interesting to watch. RBNY attendance went up with the arrival of NYCFC, but there are no guarantees here in LA. LAG have been struggling with a rebuild, but with some fresh $$ and new faces they could easily hold or increase their attendance while also seeing big numbers for LAFC. FYI... as a side note I've been glad to see RBNY attendance number climbing the last few years. I didn't realize they averaged more than Portland. If they climb again next year and start hitting a new more sell outs, and with the development of Harrison, they could be in a good long term position. (looking to be ahead of NYCFC soon).
If the recent trends for both NYRB and NYCFC continue into next season, NYRB will actually have higher attendance. However, I think the second year decline for NYCFC was a result of no longer being in the inaugural year, and the third year decline was mostly the result of the Hartford game (the Citi game hurt only a bit). If they can avoid relocated games, or at least hold them at Citi or RBA, next year should hold or go up a bit.
Yes, there was still a drop but it was only two or three hundred without the relocated games. A 1% drop in year three is no cause for concern.
No, I'm not concerned. In the back of my mind ownership has a mid/long term Yankee Stadium plan. I wonder if they were testing the Hartford waters and got their answer.
They also pushed some price increases and got less promotional. Jon Patricoff told some fans at a meeting that while attendance was down a bit, ticket revenue overall was up. I think last season was the baseline for the blues, hopefully I'm not wrong.
There's really nothing at all worth trying to read into the Connecticut debacle/disaster. Vieira made it known Hartford was chosen, because he didn't want to play the match on an artificial surface and Pratt & Whitney was the only natural turf field available.
Supposedly MLS tried to get both teams to work out a deal for Red Bull Arena, but I don't think they ever gave a definite reason as to why it never worked out. Some say the Red Bulls didn't want to offer RBA and others say NYCFC said thanks, but no thanks. Guess it depends which side of the Hudson River you reside on.
