Time for the weekly dumpster fire to get underway: As always, please keep it friendly and neutral in the PBP thread.
Seattle hosts Chivas on Saturday. Hoorah! (of course, the only team Chivas has been able to score against in their last 10 games is Seattle)
Colorado looks to tie its longest winless streak this weekend at 10. But fear not, reinforcements including a second DP are reportedly on their way....in the offseason.
Yet again the posted schedule omits the most important match of the week. I am truly outraged! Truly, outraged ... The USL Pro 2014 Championship Game Sacramenento Republic FC (yay!) - vs - Harrisburg City Islanders (boo!) Date: Saturday, September 27 Time: 10:30 PM Eastern Online Video: Streaming free and live on YouTube TV: CBS 13 in Sacramento, and a few other Northern California TV markets. I'm gonna end up missing a lot of games this weekend, but this one I'm sure as hell watching! -- Anyway ... How will CD Slumpbuster USA disappoint me this week? (Their contrac... I mean hiatus can't come soon enough!) -- Oh, almost forgot: last night's MATADOR? Best episode since last week. Next week's episode, by the way, is the last of the season.
Well, you would have had a tie last week if it wasn't for Nasco. So you might want to start there. Seriously though, I just watched all of last week's goals and just realized that Nasco let up two goals cause he spilled the ball right to an RSL player, let in an Olimpico, and scored an own goal. That is a hell of a group of goals to concede and may never be matched in MLS again in a single game. So keepers may never concede an own goal or let in an olimpico in their entire career.
Something to watch for - if Martins scores tonight he will equal Seattle's MLS record for regular season goals in a season, currently held by GAM (14 goals). If Dempsey scores twice tonight, he will equal the record.
Another point of interest, Zach Scott will be playing in his 300th Sounders game today (assuming he plays).
One look at Jair Benitez and one immediately comes to the conclusion that this fellow spends every other day at Whataburger.
I have to say, in a few years Seattle have gone from great broadcasts (Arlo White solo) to one of my least favorite pairings.
But Kasey Keller in Dallas - don't we all have wonderful memories of his last time there, when the hurricane was blowing through?
A really pretty goal, which made the Seattle defense mad because it was not called offside. Because it was not offside.
Slumpbuster Chivas on Saturday followed by Colorado. If we lose those, then we are in serious trouble.
Seattle has had the nasty habit this year of giving up the first goal (I think this was a problem last year as well). This year they have been able to overcome it quite often, but come playoff time that, in my opinion, will be fatal.
Especially can't afford to do that at home in the playoffs, with the adoption of the away-goals rule this year.
I can't tell, even after several viewings, whether the assist on the Dallas goal was really good, or just really lucky
