5 minutes on the board for stoppage time means anywhere from 5:00 to 5:59. It's a minimum of 5 minutes. There was one stoppage before the 95' mark that lasted at least 30 seconds. Then there was that stoppage just after the 95' mark that was at least another 30 seconds. The ball goes into the net at 96:22. If the original stoppage time was something like 5:45, they still would have indicated 5 minutes of stoppage time and the game could have continued to 96:45.
It's one thing to criticize the ref, but when there's a stadium wide "Ref you suck" chant going, that's a little too far in my opinion. Being told you are horrible at your job and getting publicly ridiculed isn't going to make you any better; MLS should be training these guys better, or replacing them with more competent workers.
Zardes' goal for anyone watching RSL - SKC: http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-07-20-LA-v-VAN/highlights/227600
Eeh they do it in other sports refs have to have thicker skin if not time to look for another profession.
it's professional sports. if you are a ref who can't take ribbing from a crowd of partisan fans, you should consider a different line of work to begin with.
Officiating in MLS has never been a strong point, but as the league has expanded the utter lack of depth in competent officiating has been massively exposed.
Kreis will say the same thing he said for a Philly game. If you have a big match with two contending squads, a sold out emotional crowd, you don't send your most amateur official there. It's happened two home matches in a row for RSL. Guarantee he says that.
Kei Kamara is on twitter thanking the RSL fans for throwing bottles on the field at the ned of the match- "I felt like a figure skater after that performance to have all those roses (bottle) throw on the ice (field)"
Yeah, reports from the stadium have lots of debris being thrown on the field and towards players. Bad news, unlike that chant.
I doubt any MLS fan would disagree with him- I would be shocked to find out if any team in this league hasn't been negatively affected by poor calls over the course of the season.
And he's absolutely correct. Especially with the history of these teams play chippy. You want your best ref in the center.
In MLS each team can expect at least a few matches like this each year. It's unfortunately par for the course. It's also a long season and teams generally have the space and time and opportunity to prove themselves one way or another.
