http://www.soccermadeinstlouis.com/...ng_to_launch_St._Louis_franchise_in_2013.html “St. Louis would be an absolutely fantastic franchise to have come back and be part of the MISL,” says Chris Economides, who oversees today’s MISL from the headquarters of the United Soccer Leagues in Tampa. “As we go forward with expansion plans, St. Louis is one of the primary targets.” (Interestingly enough, NASL Commissioner David Downs said the same thing not long ago.) Now, this is strange because I was assured there was going to be a St. Louis team last year (and most years before that). Also, between the time the author spoke to Economides and the time he posted the article, Norfolk folded, but that isn't reflected in the story. But before anyone goes all nuts, this is a league official saying they have an interest in a particular market, not that they actually have something lined up, or that it's certain to happen. The recent rumors of Minneapolis and Detroit and other cities haven't happened, either.
The St. Louis Steamers and Cleveland Crunch would make awesome expansion teams for the MISL. They would be somewhat beneficial for travel costs for Milwaukee and Chicago... Now, since Norfolk is gone, the Blast needs a close distance rival. Maybe a team in D.C.? one or two in the state of Pennsylvania? a team in Richmond even...? The problem is this is just all talk. Chris Economides did not even mention a particular ownership group that was interested so that makes it even more so: just talk.
ST Louis has been talked about for a while and as a mater of fact that person who will make it come to life is on the big soccer boards . Cleveland wont come to life IMO I have seen cleveland rumors for years and as for DC Never in a million years
Well, he's trying, and I give him credit for that. I would imagine he's finding it to be more difficult than you think.
I am sure it will be Ken , But if he can do it early he would have plenty of time to get the word out and sell the tickets I hope it gets done
The difference is I gave that up in 2006 (more or less) and I didn't act like a douche and brag about what I was going to do, I just tried to do it. I appreciate Brian's efforts, just not his obnoxious stylings.
Really, NSL 2004, what's that about...funny I heard the PASL isn't even paying you, good luck buddy, one point goals is a great way to live your life...
I'm actually doing quite well in the PASL and the games are great. And now I get to see games in Harrisburg.
Yes maybe this year only. Harrisburg is a disaster unfolding. The website looks like absolute garbage. Grimaldi is getting paid by who to do exactly what? They ask on their Twitter what bands should play, who the coach should be etc.. to the 74 followers. IMAGE is everything. They easily could have spent $3500 and had a beautifully designed website (i.e. Missouri Comets) and had the look of a professional team. A coach should have been named (David B. ) long by now. BTW- is Missouri's site not the best one out there or what? I commend the PASL for adding new teams, but Milliken will add my local men's team if we write him a $25,000 check. VEGAS will fail. They'll be lucky to comp 1000 and draw 1500. The only team that will be standing (or playing in a real arena) next year will be Dallas. Whoever said Vegas needs to be on the strip you are clueless. The strip is made up of 99% tourists, and the other 1% are the locals showing them around. The ORLEANS ARENA is a perfect venue for soccer, just too bad the 80% Latino population that resides their will not support indoor soccer. PS- I heard Meir Cohen wrote a $50,000 check to join the PASL? They doubled the entrance fee? A lot more to say from the desk of FIFAMAN later this week
David Grimaldi has had a good working relationship with Kevin Milliken for several years. The PASL-Premier was the official developmental league for MISL2 as well. Good things happen when you work together and don't burn bridges.
tell that to the rest of the MISL Owners we could have a 24 team league right now if every one worked together but that will never happien what would be nice is if we had inter league play that counted in the standings 3 on the road and 3 at home
And there's no way all of those 17 PASL teams could be at the next level. No way on Earth. The only league that's ever had more than 15 teams in it was the NASL in 1980-81. The last time there were 24 indoor teams in existence was 1996-97 when there were 15 NPSL teams and 11 CISL teams. We haven't even hit ten teams in the last ten years.
Yeah, 'til 1990-91. Ryan didn't get to the MISL until 2000, at which point there were 30 teams in the NHL.
There were as many as 29 teams between the NPSL and CISL at one point I think. The PASL teams could not all meet the MISL financial requirements, but all the MISL teams could meet the PASL financial requirements. And we were very close to having the MISL teams join the PASL at one point. That said, any merger will almost always kill about 1/4 of the teams right off the bat and I would cite the CHL-WPHL, NPSL-WISL and AFL-af2 as examples.
High water mark: 31 in 1980-81 when the MISL had 12 and the NASL had 19. In 1994-95 (winter of 1994-95 and summer of 1995), there were 27 teams between the NPSL (12) and the CISL (15): Anaheim Splash (died with CISL collapse) Arizona Sandsharks (took 1997 off, didn't come back) Baltimore Spirit (became today's Blast) Buffalo Blizzard (lasted until 2000-2001) Canton Invaders (moved to Columbus for 96-97, then Montreal until 2000) Chicago Power (were on last legs at this point, eventually moved to Edmonton, died late 2000) Cleveland Crunch (became Force, lasted until 2004-2005) Dallas Sidekicks (lasted until 2003-2004) Dayton Dynamo (moved to Cincinnati the next year, lasted until 1997-98) Detroit Neon (became Safari, died when CISL did) Detroit Rockers (lasted until 2001) Harrisburg Heat (lasted until 2003) Houston Hotshots (died when CISL did, were resurrected in PSA/WISL, lasted until 2001) Kansas City Attack (became Comets, lasted until 2004-2005) Las Vegas Dustdevils (their last year of existence) Mexico Toros (their only year of existence) Milwaukee Wave (still chugging) Monterrey LaRaza (have been in and out of various leagues since, last seen in 2010) Pittsburgh Stingers (their last year) Portland Pride (survived death of CISL and lived in PSA/WISL as Pythons until 2000) Sacramento Knights (also survived in PSA/WISL until 2002) San Diego Sockers (this version died prior to 1997 CISL season, have been resurrected twice) San Jose Grizzlies (this was it for them) Seattle SeaDogs (CISL's last champion, that was their swan song) St.Louis Ambush (lasted until 2000) Washington Warthogs (died with the CISL) Wichita Wings (made it to 2001, resurrected last season)
Sort of like when a lawyer wanders around the emergency rooms drumming up new business, the St Louis Indoor team rumor just keeps going and going.
Why not figure out away to have inter League play syd if the leages would work together instead of against each other indoorsoccer just may survive for a long time
