While awaiting the kickoff of the eighth season of Major League Soccer in April, players who provided a bridge from the NASL to MLS gathered last weekend in Milwaukee for the Major Indoor Soccer League's All-Star Weekend. Being from Chicago, I made the trip up I-94 and reminisced with the legends of indoor soccer such as former Chicago Sting players Drago, Batata (who also played for the Chicago Power), and current Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper Victor Nogueira. Tune in to the Sunday Sports Shootout this Sunday morning at 8:30 am Central Time to hear some memories from the days when the Sting rocked the "Madhouse on Madison" in the 1980's. I also spoke with MISL commissioner Steve Ryan about the potential of the league returning to Chicago and caught up with the new generation of indoor soccer stars such as All-Star Game MVP Dino Delevski and Batata's son Nilton DaSilva. Remember, tune into 88.7 FM or log onto www.wluw.org at 8:30 am Central Time this and every Sunday morning for the best half hour of sports in Chicago, the Sunday Sports Shootout.
What did you think of the game Danny? I made the trip as well and had a good time. I was a little young but mad those days back in the old barn on Madison with the Sting were great days. Absolutely great!!! To be honest I was a little dissapointed in the turnout and was in Clevland last year for the MISL Allstar game. We should go grab a beer one time and chat about the good old days.
I thought the game was great with some really wonderful goals. I got goosebumps watching the legends game, too. It was just a fun day and I hope we'll be having a weekend like that in Chicago sometime in the future. I'm always up for chatting about the good ol' days. Just don't remind me about how old they are!
