Well, not counting Owens it would have to be Michael Owen.

Yeah, I 'll have to agree with him on this. Of course after that it would be Sami Hyypia.

    Different players have different talents.

Overall, I'd say Gerrard or Diouf have the most "talent".

But saying that, I think Riise is more of a total two way player, and is more versatile.

Yeah, but he's been shit for most of the season. Plus, he never really convinces in his secondary role as a left midfielder. Despite this actually being his primary role, when you go back through his career.

My vote goes to Stevie as well. In previous years Sami and Didi were close and Sami certainly would have been my pick in the treble year when he went the whole season dominating the back line without a caution. However, Stevie is finally growing into the player we all hoped he would become. His performance on Wednesday for England exemplified the talents he has --- hard tackling, strong work rate, and exceptional vision combined with good to excellent skills on the ball.

  8. Ouch.

In general, our second-best has to be Steven Gerrards. :)

Although for very long stretches this year, Danny Murphy's form has been exceptional.

Definitely Stevie, overall. But based on form this season, you could say Murphy.

I can't believe I am the lone voice for Sami. IMO he is one of the three best defenders in the league, if not the best.

In reality, noone on this team has had a spectacular season in comparison to what we've seen them do before or what we think they are capable of. Nobody.

If I posted in this forum more regualry, I would've said Sami too. His arrival at Anfield (and to a lesser extent, Henchoz as well) solved what was a major weakness for much of the decade. I can't think of a better center back in the whole Premiership.

Oh, if we're talking current members and their entire stay so far at the club, then yea, Hyypia has to be at least in the top three. I thought we meant just this season.

    I don't know what we're talking about. I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure who's the top player right at this moment. I guess Michael Owen because of all the goals he's squeezed out despite everything? And Gerrard's close behind.

El-Hadji Diouf. maybe this is not correct, as I know he has not been in form as of yet, but just wait.

Hmmm...well, you're a brave soul, and I really hope that you're correct, 'cause the club is really backing this guy and trying to sell him to the fans like I've never seen before.

The only matches ive seen liverpool this season really fully were the two ties against celtic and on that basis I think Djimi Traore is the best player next to Owens ;)

    My pick...

    for this season is tie:
Murphy and Gerrard! Murphy has over achieved as far as scoring goes and Gerrard is only getting better.

If we're talking about this season, I have a hard time voting for Gerrard. He's had some very poor outings, when compared to his normal lofty standards. That said, when Gerrard is on form, he is our most influential player, and one of my favs.

Week in, week out, Murphy has been our best player, imo, and Sami is not far behind. Mark down my vote for Spuds.

To put it another way, what Sami has given us this year is completely expected (save for the recent Red Card) and much of what Danny has given has been a bonus, especially when he carried the midfield during Stevie G's dry spell(s).

    Re: My pick...

Spud has six league goals. Same as last season, only with a higher shots/goals ratio. In the treble season he only got four. I think his overall best is now 11, scored this season, but that only outstrips his previous best by one.

Gerrard has been patchy, albeit increasingly influential more recently.

If we were going by this season alone, then Murphy would win hands down, he has been our best player by a country mile. But on inate talent, then Gerrard is second only to Owen.

The MVP should go to Hypia. Hypia is also one of the best defenders in the league. How's that for knowledge? :)

    Congrats on the derby win.
