Milton Keynes Dons vs Blackpool, Carling Cup second round Tuesday 24th August 2010, kick-off 7:45pm Blackpool play their first game in the Carling Cup as a PL side on Tuesday, when they take on MK Dons at Stadium MK. Last season MK Dons finished 12th in League One. Dietmar Hamann is player-coach with the club. More news later.
Ian Evatt serves his one-match suspension for his sending off at Arsenal, so Israeli Dekel Keinan may well make his first start for the Tangerines.
Match facts, stats and figures Team news MK Dons' Mat Doumbe could be handed a starting spot after he came off the bench during the heavy defeat to Carlisle United on Saturday. Pele, Jude Stirling and striker Aaron Wilbraham remain out of action. Blackpool are without Ian Evatt following his sending-off against Arsenal. New signing Dekel Keinan could start, and Brett Ormerod is expected to come back into the side if Ian Holloway opts for a more attacking line-up Head-to-head Blackpool have won three and lost two of the five competitive meetings they have had with Milton Keynes Dons. They have never met in the League Cup. Their most recent clash was a second-round tie in the 2006 FA Cup, which Blackpool won 2-0 in Milton Keynes. Blackpool Blackpool are entering the League Cup at the second-round stage for the first time since 1977. The Tangerines were 1962 semi-finalists and were last knocked out by lower league opposition in the season before last, when League Two Macclesfield Town beat them 2-0 in the first round. Ian Holloway's side are looking for a place in the third round for the second season running, having beaten Wigan Athletic at this stage, before losing to Stoke City last year. Milton Keynes Milton Keynes, who put out Dagenham & Redbridge in the first round, are aiming to reach the third round for the first time since 2006-07. The Dons are facing Premier League opposition in the League Cup for the first time since losing 5-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the third round in 2006.
Kick-off is 7:45pm BST (sorry don't know what time that is where you are!) There should be regular updates here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_cup/8932928.stm I will try and keep updates in this thread. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a site streaming the game, which isn't surprising as there are 21 League Cup games this evening and three more tomorrow night. The only games being shown live in the UK are the clash between tiny Accrington Stanley and Newcastle United tomorrow and Birmingham City vs Rochdale on Thursday. Accrington's Fraser Eagle stadium only holds 5,070, and is the smallest in the Football League, with seating for 2,000 and the rest being terracing.
LOL...I guess I should've mentioned... I'm in St. Louis, MO USA in the Central Time Zone...normally about -6 GMT. Right now, it's 1:05pm.
Ah ha so now I know, you are six hours behind!!! Ian Holloway has made TEN changes for tonights game, with only French midfielder Ludovic Sylvestre in the starting line-up from the Arsenal game. Mark Halstead, Dekel Keinan, Chris Basham and 2nd year scholar Tom Barkhuizen all make their first starts. Another absentee tonight and significantly, is Ian Holloway who is taking in another game, apparently to check on a transfer target. That means Steve Thompson and Stephen McPhee take charge tonight. Team: Mark Halstead Neal Eardley Rob Edwards Dekel Keinan Danny Coid Chris Basham Stephen Husband Ludovic Sylvestre Tom Barkhuizen Brett Ormerod Ishmel Demontagnac Subs: Matthew Gilks Charlie Adam Gary Taylor-Fletcher Elliot Grandin Ashley Eastham Craig Cathcart Stephen Crainey
MK Dons line-up David Martin Dean Lewington Mathias Kouo-Doumbé Sean O'Hanlon Danny Woodards Angelo Balanta Dietmar Hamann Peter Leven Luke Chadwick Jermaine Easter Sam Baldock Subs: Stuart Searle Adam Chicksen Tom Flanagan Mark Carrington Daniel Powell Lewis Guy Jabo Ibehre
And now 3-3 LOL 1 min 1-0 Baldock 52 mins 1-1 Ormerod 55 mins 2-1 Easter 57 mins 3-1 Easter 58 mins 3-2 Sylvestre 82 mins 3-3 Adam Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Charlie Adam and Elliot Grandin have all come on.
In the interest of wrapping up here, this match went into extra time where Lewis Guy scored the match winner, MKD 4-3 BFC.
Thank you!!!!! In all honesty I think that not having the distraction now of the League Cup is a good thing. Last nights team was not only a reserve Blackpool side but included a young youth team player making his first team debut (Barkhuizen). A total of three players were making their first starts (Basham, Barkhuizen and Keinan) while other players such as Danny Coid and Rob Edwards were playing their first games of the season. And more than half the team (six players) were 22 or under. It certainly was a young and inexperienced side - Mark Halstead - 20 Neal Eardley - 21 Rob Edwards - 27 Dekel Keinan - 25 Danny Coid - 28 Chris Basham - 22 Ludovic Sylvestre - 26 Stephen Husband - 19 Ishmel Demontagnac - 22 Brett Ormerod - 33 Tom Barkhuizen - 17 or 18 Even including Brett Ormerod the average age of the 11 was 23. And the average age of the other ten players was just 22.
