I haven't been in this forum long people might have discussed this already but yeh i'm quite interested in a "fantasy" milan vs real madrid game.
As we all know although madrid have "big" names doesn't mean they're the most effective as a team.
I've been talking to real madrid fans and their attitude is "who needs a good defence when you can out score our opponent"
Do people think ac milan can out score real?
and please disregard the fact that either of them could possibly have a "shocker" e.g. milan vs deportivo hmmm....sad memories
anyway disregard that and pretend milan and real played to their potential.

If we just look at the 2 sides on paper then, IMO, Milan are clearly better. But then again, I might be a little biased ;) I was praying that Milan would play Real in the CL so they can exploit Real's shaky defense. But I guess it wasn't to be. I have a feeling next year's Real will be much better than this years. They have already gotten Samuel and I expect them to sign a top notch DM. But let's compare anyway.

    Goalkeeper:
Both keepers are great in their own so I would have to call this a push.

    Defense:
This is not even close. Cafu is superior to Salgado, Nesta and Maldini are superior to whoever Real have in the center(including Samuel), and although Roberto Carlos is the best attacking full back in the world, Kaladze fits the Milan system much better and is clearly a better tackler than RC. And this doesn't even mention Stam who will most likely be a reserve player. Stam would walk into the Real starting eleven without question. Yet at Milan he could be third choice center back.

    Midfield:
Many Real fans might be aghast at anybody saying that another club has just as good a midfield as the galaticos but it is evident at Milan. Beckham, Guti, Figo, and Zidane is definately a class midfield. But they are definitely missing some bite. Milan have Pirlo, Seedorf, Gattuso, and Kaka that, I think, clearly matches Real in creativity and surpasses them in defensive work. While Zidane, Figo, Beckham, and Guti are just as creative as Milan’s bunch they don't have the tacklers that Milan have. Gattuso and Seedorf are both supreme defensive work horses. People may claim that Guti and Beckam have become better tacklers but even if that is true they are not on the same level as Seedorf and Gattuso. And if we compare the creative forces of each team I think it is about equal. Figo and Zidane have huge reputations as world superstars. Pirlo and Kaka might not have the reputations yet but they are clearly on the same level on the field. In a couple years both will be superstars just like Figo and Zidane are now.

Attack: Raul/Ronaldo is a mouth watering frontline. But it could be argued that it is not the optimal frontline. Both players need the ball at their feet to be at their best. And while Ronaldo has been bagging the goals the last 2 years Raul has looked lost in a formation that doesn't utilize his skills like it used to. On paper yes, I would give the edge to Real over Milan's strike force. But you can't deny the fact that Milan's strikers score just as many goals as Real's do. Last year when Sheva was injured Pippo ransacked Europe and Italy with a ton of goals. And this year when Pippo was injured Sheva scored a ton. And Tomasson has also done his part this last year.

Bench: This is not even up for debate. Do Real even have a bench?

Gattuso and Pirlo would have won the midfield for AC Milan. Beckham and Guti cannot stop Kaka, Rui Costa and Seedorf frm penatrating. Once the ball passed the midfield. Bravo and Pavon are no match for AC Milan offense. Milan will score at least two goals.

Meanhile, Nesta and Maldini are probably the best Real Madrid would have faced all year. But Ronaldo has been scoring many individual goals. He will score 1 to 2.

Final score' AC Milan 3-2, or 3-1

As a Real fan, I am ready for the uproar I will get after the post. But thats the fun of BigSoccer. :)

    GK: Even

Defense: AC Milan so far, but could swing back towards Real depending on summer signings. I personally want to see Chivu signed at Real, and I think Salgado Chivu Samuel RCarlos is a good backline defensivley, and obviously Salgado and RCarlos can attack down the wings as well. But Nesta and Maldini are top class, so we'll give the D to Milan

Midfield: While Pirlo and Kaka are certainly great players attacking, and Seedorf and Gattuso are good defensively and Seedorf can also go forward, I think saying Kaka and Pirlo are better than Zidane and Figo is a stretch. First of all, Kaka and Figo don't really play the same role, so thats a hard comparison. Kaka had a great season, and showed tons of skill and potential, but Figo can still terrorize marking backs or other wings like none other. Kaka is probably a better scorer, but Figo gets his share of goals too, as well as providing service to Raul, Ronaldo, ZIdane, etc. Zidane is peerless (no pun intended), and while Pirlo also had a breakout season, I tihnk that Zidane is still one of the games top 3 players. He has vision, touch, skill, and strength in a combination unlike any other player. He makes the difficult look simple, and can break down defenses with his passing. Beckham, if he can play like he did when he first arrived, also is a top-class player who can give balls to Ronaldo and Raul as well as get stuck in defensively. Its almost certain we will sign a defensive mid, so I will hold off on commenting on our fourth midfielder. But I give midfield slightly to Real, just because of our awseome attacking strength.

Attack: This goes to Real, no doubt. Ronaldo is the best player in the world, and Raul is top 10 when he's on form (which he was not last season). Shevchenko is top class also, and Inzaghi has his moments, but Sheva can't score like Ronaldo (and Maldini and Nesta can't keep up with him), and Inzaghi is nowhere near the player Raul is.

It would be a great game, and I would love to meet Milan in CL play next season. I'm gonna have to say 4-2 Real, just because of how unstoppable Ronaldo is, and Casillas's ability to make incredible saves.

You can't depend on summer transfers and you can't hope that Becks finds his earlier form. Right now, Milan is as good or better than Real in the midfield and on the attack. They always have been much stronger on defense. Real has not seen this class of defense all year and would score once, maybe twice at best. Real's weakness lies in its defense and inability to tackle. Shevy and Kaka exploit that and notch 2 or 3. How did the two sides end their respective seasons? I believe Real lost 4 of its last 5 and the Rossonerri won the Scudetto by beating the next best team in Serie A (it hurts saying that). Real is a great example of how a squad of all-stars/"galacticos" does not always make the best team.

This is probably the wrong time to discuss this... our team is crap. In fact over all of last season, I'd have given Milan the edge. But even with the ******** defence, if we had Makalale instead of Beckham I think we would have beaten Milan. I really feel if Makalale and Ronaldo had been playing, we would have killed Juve, Milan only scraped through.

At the end of the season Milan would have beaten Madrid at home or in Spain. However I believe our management has learned its lessons and after this offseason our newly balanced squad will have the strength to give Milan a whomping.

Not likely. Real's star players are on the wrong side of 30, and you just implemented a new coaching staff. You may have gotten Samuel which was a good move however in football there is a difference between having good defenders and playing good defence.

There is not one Italian squad in the top seeding for next year which makes it possible for Milan to draw Madrid in the group stages. If this happened i'd consider Madrid to be very unlucky and not the other way around.

I don't think ronaldo is unstoppable. An example of an unstoppable striker would be pele. I don't see ronaldo scoring 100 goals a season. So i think he's quite stoppable especially when it's maldini and nesta. It's not like maldini and nesta haven't had ronaldo run at them before so they won't be lacking "experience". Personally i reckon if real score at all the goals would be coming from outside the box.

Hahaha.....casillas's ability to make incredible saves.....well they aren't incredible enough cause real want to buy buffon
    http://tribalfootball.com/june/spanishnews040604.html

and i don't care how incredible you think your goal keeper is but half of milans goals come from deliveries on the flanks and yes when the ball is crossed into the box you'll have the likes of kaka or shevchenko or seedorf or pirlo either volleying or smacking it harder than you'd know at point blank.

I agree that Pele was good, but I think I might have found a slight flaw in your initial argument: if Ronaldo is not unstoppable, as you say, how come nobody has ever been able to consistently stop him? In Serie A, where defense is arguably the strongest in the world, Ronaldo is the second most prolific goal scorer of all time -- 58 games, 49 goals -- and has done better than that everywhere else he's played. That was in the late 90s, when Maldini was in his prime, and Serie A was the best league in the world. Yes, Maldini and Nesta do have experience of being scored on by Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, Raul, Beckham, Casillas, Samuel are all top class stars that would walk into any team in the world, and all are under 30. I would look forward to playing Milan in the group stages, then we could smash them both at the Bernebeau and in front of their own fans in Milan!

I think you should schedule another appointment with your third grade spelling teacher.

Zidane? Roberto Carlos? Figo? Any of these dudes ring a bell? Yes most players on the entire team would walk on to any top league clubs but I can assure you that the players mentioned above would not participate in "every" match as they are beyond the years of rigorous training and dont have the stamina necessary.

Once this abysmal prophecy is trashed to oblivion, you'll definitley be hearing from me. That'll be something you can look forward to.

It was late and I was tired you punta.

First off, until Samuel signs a contract with RM, he's not playing for RM. And if you want to get into a pissin' match over player name recognition, Milan is not the club to choose for that. It's futile. Why don't you go brag to some Rayo Vallecano or Cordoba fans about the players on your squad?

Something like this would need to happen help the Real fans forget about all those loses at home this last year. Surely it's painful to loose to someone like Osasuna, let alone Barca at home. Maybe it will if Real can qualify for the first group phase of the CL next fall.

Are you serious? Your idea of proper grammar isn't something to brag about either. Keep the jabber to footy.

I hope you really don't believe that Ronaldo wouldn't start over Schevchenko in a second on Milan or Real. As I said before, Ronaldo scored more often than Sheva in a higher-quality Serie A when he was younger. Beckham would start over Cafu, Raul would start over Kaka when on form, Casillas over Dida, and Samuel would be a better defender than Maldini but Maldini would start because of his history at Milan. And Samuel is going to play for Real, sorry about any confusion you may have. Not only are Real's players better, they are better-recognized worldwide. How about you brag about your players to a couple of Chinese teams, they didn't seem to be too impressed by you guys.

Surely it must be painful to have to create a thread to talk about hypothetically beating a team in order to confirm to yourselves how great you are. An inferiority complex or simple siliness, I don't know. But only one team has a 9 on the patch of their Champions League shirts, only one team was named Team of the Century by FIFA, and as far as I know, only one team is important enough that other teams fans make threads in which they describe their dreams of playing Madrid, i.e. this one.

Fair enough. Sorry, I'll try to keep it to footy. This is a fun thread though - hopefully it won't turn to personal attacks.

Technically, the medical + the finalisation of the deal doesn't happen until after the Copa.

    http://skysports.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=205305

And if you think it's a done deal, there's a kid from Argentina named Milito about things being a done deal before the medical.

Are you talking about at fullback? midfield? in the ncenter? at the right? I didn't think they played the same position.

Again, I didn't think these two played the same position on the pitch.

Kaka starts over Raul. Beckham and Cafu play different positions. There's nothing to suggest Iker starts over Dida. Samuel ove Maldini is a wash.

I'm not really sure where you came up with this stuff. As for Ronaldo, he may well sit at Milan. Milan relies considerably more on active strikers when they play their 4-5-1. Ronaldo neither tracks back nor provides for his teammates. I don't think he fits Milan's game plan terribly well.

Milito was an unproven young defender from a mid-table Argentine team, while Samuel is a proven defender in Europe who is a regular on the Argentine national team. The big signings all pass the medicals unless there is a drastic situation, which has yet to occur.

    Just some considerations:
    - Ronaldo nowadays is a completely different player. You can´t compare what he is now to what he was in 1997 or before. I met him in 1993, after a game against Corinthians, here in São Paulo. And was a shock to met him again last game against Argentina.
My first thought was if he had scheduled a visited to BALCO company. The two injuries in his knee changed his body completely. Not to mention the way he plays.
Ten years ago, he tried 14 or 15 rushes in a game; now just 5 or 6.

    - I think some of the Real´s key players (R. Carlos, ZZ and Figo) already passed their prime and just Samuel is not enough for defence. Some protection in the middle, what Gattuso, Seedorf, Pirlo and even Kaká do superbly in Milan, is an important issue too.

But let´s wait for the next match between these two superpowers to see what happens.

My suspicions revolve around the treatment which includes the 98 World Cup fiasco. I think if it wern't for the gradual punishment Ronaldo could of fully returned, but I guess it doesn't matter cause he came back and won a World Cup in 2002 which was clearly after his prime.
