yeah, thats a good thing.seems that Morientes is definetly leaving Madrid, but the question is---where to???
For those people who see the spanish league, which striker would u like more,Mista OR Morientes????I would love to see Morientes coming, since hes very good in the box,and scores alot of goals with headers(sadly, our curent strikers cant score goals with there heads,so it will be another plus to the side)

And I want a harem of busty blonde women to cater to my every whim. However, I face the same problem: lack of funds.

As an aside: Would you seriously sell Cisse after two months in a red shirt? Would you seriously sell Baros after his first two months of legitimate first team football? If so, how would you expect to attract names like Morientes and Mista if they know they'll get the axe if they don't fully adapt to the English game within one lunar cycle?

I wouldn't sell Baros or Cisse, I thought both played well against Charlton, but I agree with you both, I think some hot lusty (in fact busty) blondes would looke great parading on the turf at Anfield.

Well Done Micheal, keep it going :D

It's likely to be the same at Real Madrid as it was at Liverpool throughout his career. He will now go on a scoring run of about 6-8 games and then either get injured or dropped and that will be it for another cycle.

Dear Sir/Mr Moderator: but how does one BLASPHEME against the reputation of the great one? Owens goal for the winner over Valencia was vintage.....the goal yesterday was rubbish, a girlie left foot pushed gently past the exposed 3rd division keeper.

Yeah, the Valencia goal was class - reminscent of the second of his three goals against Newcastle up at the park a few years back, that 4-2 win. It's the nonchalant finish that bodes well for Real Madrid. That's pure Owen, the little flicked finish into the far corner with the outside of the boot, at full pelt.

    Brilliant

Excellent point. Milan never really got a chance to shine under GH and Co. He's proven he's a world class player this past summer at the Euro's. He's also not even 25 IIRC. Cisse just bloody got here. Give the lad some time. He'll get used to the pace and style soon, and the goals will flow in. Thierry Henry didn't exactly settle at Juve, and now look at him.

Nor did he settle straight in at Arsenal either. At Juve he had been asked to operate as a winger and it took Wenger some time to get him thinking like a centre forward again. Naturally, that period (roughly six months) coincided with his general need to get used to the speed and physicality of the Premiership. By the time Wenger had him back to what he was at Monaco, he was up and running in terms of the style too. And the rest is history. Now, it would be both ludicrously presumptious and unfair to expect or predict that Cisse will become Henry's actual equal if only given time (despite many French football pundits considering it eminently possible), but that doesn't make it any less unfair or unrealistic to start casting aspersions on him after barely 10 games in a red shirt.

To be fair, what Baros proved is that he can finish off chances created by a midfield containing Nedved, Rosicky, Poborsky and Jankulovsky. I'd likely have a decent strike rate with that midfield too.
He's still an excellent prospect, of course, being so young. And not a bad player already. However, what worries me is that he and Cisse are not particularly good at providing for anyone else, although that may come with more time.
Well, that would worry me if I was a Liverpool fan, I mean. But to chuck him in exchange for Mista or a much older Morientes is simply stupid.

I Think we should give Baros a chance.Baros skill is very good, and once he changes his mentality a bit ,he will become a very good player!!!

I think if benitez wants to buy new players,he will have to sell aswell(Traore,Finnan,Henchoz,etc.....).I dont think liverpool have the money to buy a new player, since they are still paying of Garcia and Alonso!!!

Baros seems to think the only way to score a goal is by dribbling all the defenders and the keeper
if Benitez could just scream in his face and tell him that once u sight on goal you shoot, i guarantee you hed ahve at LEAST 5 more this season
all his stupid dribbles in the box

At some point Milan will be getting service from a midfield of Kewell, Gerrard, Alonso, and Garcia which is potentially just as good as the Czechs. I would be patient with Cisse and Baros and the goals will come. Our money could be better spent on a defender or a winger because a top striker could cost more than 10 million.

i really think that if benitez does get the money to buy ,he will buy a winger.(not to shure about the defender!,who would u take out of the lineup?surely not Carragher or Hyypia!!!!)

Excellent points, all. Baros is a very good finisher (recent travails notwithstanding) and is in his element when given the ball at his feet and a defence to run at. That, in a nutshell, is all he was required to deal with at Euro 2004. And he dealt with it admirably, as we all saw.

Where Liverpool fans have always been more reserved in their judgement about him is in his decision-making, his vision and his tactical awareness. We all love his workrate and his application, but we've all seen why he has been ommitted so much in the past. Put simply, when you have a player like Owen ahead of you, you have to bring something more than workrate to the table.

Now that Owen is gone, Baros has the opportunity to do two things: one, to make his position in the team as leading striker a secure one and two, to learn the game some more.

The partnership with Cisse has to be given time. It is clear that at the moment things aren't working - and signs of discontent are a regular feature in matches at the moment. They have started adapting their runs to each other, now they need to start picking each other out more regularly. The most recent game, against Charlton, suggested that it is Baros that is the weak link in this. Two incidents stick in my mind - one when Cisse fed a lovely throughball down the right channel for Baros to run onto and one where he played Baros in out wide and then headed for the penalty spot (unmarked and clear) only for Baros to shoot into the side-netting from a clearly injudicious angle. Cisse's frustration on that occasion was demonstrated to the entire stadium in a uniquely French (i.e. very expressive and unambiguous) fashion.

With regard to Morientes or Mista - it's largely a separate issue. Irrespective of what Baros and Cisse do, collectively or individually, we need another striker. We can't hope to get through a whole season with just three main strikers (one of whom is more prospect than established) and Garcia.

Ooooof. That's a bit of a tall order. No offense to Liverpool's midfield, but Nedved's been better than practically any player in the world over the past 2-3 years. Had he not left the game against Greece, I think the Czechs are celebrating their Euro victory. C'est la vie, however.
Also, Kewell's form has pulled a George Best's liver, and I don't think they have transplants for that.
If you can get your midfield to play to the level of the Czechs, you'll certainly make the EPL more than a 2 team race. :)p)

I think a winger is far more likely and necessary, since you're occasionally playing Finnan and Diao on the wings. Neither are "bad" players (well, Diao I'm not so sure about) but Finnan's a limited player. Good, but limited.

Diao has not ever played out wide to the best of my knowledge. And he's crap in any case, I think we can confirm that here and now.

Finnan is only in the team at all because Benitez plays Garcia (who would normally play on the right) up front and drops either Cisse or Baros for away games. At home, Finnan rarely starts.

We need a striker. More than anything else.

Yes, he does tend to run with his head down. I really think someone needs to tell him to look up. I'm afraid he'll run into a goalpost one of these days.

I don't watch Liverpool games as closely as you do, but that doesn't surprise me. Well, Baros's reaction - Cisse's unselfish passing is a bit strange. ;) After ten games, however, to abandon two players who have proven that they can score at high levels is foolish. We're still playing Kezman, and he's missed a series of chances over his ten games here that would make Forlan proud. Cisse could turn out to be Diouf, and Baros the next Allback (only scores for country). However, judging by their records, that's pretty unlikely. So I'd give them more time and perhaps focus on getting a winger, since Garcia can't do it all.

You're not sold on FSP as that option, I take it? If you're going to bring in a third striker, I would imagine it would have to be someone who can create for others, who can link better with another striker and the midfield (something neither Cisse nor Baros have shown much of a willingness to do, imho). Perhaps in the mold of Gudjohnson. Or Raul, when on form. To that effect, I don't see Morientes or Mista as the answer, as neither are all that pass happy. Plus, Mista's a dangerous proposition. He's no spring chicken, and he's had one good season after being a solid mediocrity.
