While the goal is getting a lot of hype here, and rightfully so; can we take a moment to respect the ball he played to Lucas to set the events in motion? That was astounding.
I did see that. Quite the contrast to Lucas, who simply knelt with the ball in the goal and appeared to say a prayer.
This is quite possibly the greatest work of art from a Crew fan since the General Sherman/Atlanta welcome pic.
I've been pointing this same behavior out for weeks. He stations himself somewhere in the box, stands there like a statue, and then, when he doesn't get the ball delivered to him on a platter he starts yelling at everybody and waving his arms around. Sometimes even while the ball is still bouncing around the area. I've noticed it maybe a dozen times. He just can't abide the incompetence of his sluggardly teammates. It's arrogant and obnoxious from a guy who hasn't contributed shit. It's all everybody else's fault. As you astutely point out, he started his act again at exactly the same time Berry, 20 feet away, was taking action and winning the game. I can't wait to see the last of that asshole.
Looking at that play again, BWP is just acting like a striker should. He wants the ball at his feet because he thinks he can slam it home. Nothing wrong with that. And tbh, Berry had the space that if he dished it to BWP I have no doubt that the old man would bang it in. But boy, am I glad Berry took it himself. Honk honk.
Time to lock this thread. Berry is not our savior. He is not a starter. His legend will likely fade once were are out of playoff hunt but certainly by next season. Nice kid. Will have a nice career as a sub.
So if the guy is not the second coming of Jeff Cunningham we're not allowed to make a fuss about him? What kind of nonsense is that? Lock the thread? That's ridiculous. Look, when the Crew has someone better to send out there I'll be the first one to applaud. But for now all we have is Grampa Wright-Phillips and that waste of oxygen Hurtado, and I'd rather just slip one of those gawdawful gray shirts on a big old morning after beer dump and toss it out there. Megabus forever.
He’s probably more like a Pete Marino than a Jeff Cunningham. Thing is, he’s effective and he’s young. I’m happy to see him get as many minutes as possible.
I'm not saying that at all, and I think you know it. I'm saying give the kid more minutes down the stretch this season and see what happens. Someone smarter than me once said that when a [soccer player] shows you who they are, believe them. Miguel Berry has shown that he is a young, hungry, worker who has an interest in providing offense and scoring goals. Why should we not believe him?
I'm going to keep beating the drum until y'all wise up. Berry is a sub. He's depth. I challenge you all to seriously go back and watch the games he started. Doesn't have work rate to go 60 or more minutes. Doesn't drop deep to help defend - like Gyassi. I posted after his 1st start that he literally stood right in front of me next to CB for probably 2/3rds of his time on field. I like the kid - I really do. I love that he has scored some crucial goals for us. But we have far bigger needs and areas of the field that need addressed that worrying about getting him more minutes...as long as Gyassi is healthy. This is closer to a Steve Lenhart 2.0 and hopefully step above Tommy Heinneman and Adam Jahn. Remember the hype for those guys? Scoring goals...so easy even cavemen can do it.
Go back and watch his footwork on the second goal, from the pass to the touch to the shot. If you think that Lenhart, Heinneman or Jahn can do any of what Berry did on that play I can't help you.
I can see the Alan Gordon comparison and would be grateful if that is what he becomes over the long term.
I missed this and I apologize. Let's say that I was going to turn this into a poster to put in my basement -- do you have a higher resolution available? This poster simply sums up the season too well.
