Midfield [R]

Discussion in 'New York Red Bulls' started by The Ghost of BillR4, Apr 12, 2003.

  1. We will be tough to beat when we get one.

Yes, a disappointing result but the team put in a workmanlike effort for most of the evening. We owned the last 20 minutes of the first half. Columbus pretty much owned the second half.

Defense played well (except for a few seconds in injury time). Howard was excellent as usual.

This team will have to work hard all the time. We don't have the talent to outclass anyone. Our midfield still plays without a fulltime playmaker and we don't have a true left midfielder. So that means that Mathis has to play the midfield. He must have done something wrong in a prior life to be doomed not to play forward for the Metro. He turns some nice plays and makes some good passes but he isn't your tireless midfielder or your field general either.

Richie Williams played very well, easily the best midfielder that we have. Richie Williams should not be our best midfielder, but he is.

Moreno and Magee were not particularly impressive tonight.

No need to despair, this is a work-in-progress.

I thought that was what the preseason was for?

Very dissapointing game tonight. I think last years team looked better.

    And thats not sayin much.

Start Wolyniec next time. McGee just gets pushed around.

    Pigs Eye (St. Paul),
Mathis was back to his old habit of ragging on the refs all the time.

    big up to Brooklyn
i agree except for the Moreno part. i think Moreno was unbelievably well on the dribble, he split that defense more tahn a few times. but we have no target striker, and thats what i think Mathis should be. We're all good in the midfeild once Guevara is here.

    Mathis--Moreno
    Guevara
    Digi-Williams-Clark-LeBlanc
    Zaidie-Pope-Jolley(should be captain)
    Timmy

thats a pretty good line-up, maybe not class YET, we still have to gel with Guevara and Mathis, dont forget, he was out most of the pre-season

This team needs Guevara in the midfield playing well, a good left defender and Di Giamarino playing left midfield. Mathis had a couple of good shots on goal. If he played forward he could of scored. Magee looked good but could not finnish. They have to go with Moreno and Mathis at forward. They better hurry up and sign their third international which I hope is a left defender.

Section113, unfortunately, there was a massive restructuring in the preseason. These first few weeks is going to be our 'preseason'.

New coach, new team, new everything.

The GM is taking his time here. He has got to sign the rest of the players available to this team and they have to be at full strenght the rest of the way.

oh man you got that right ! he should just keep his head in the game,he'll get his calls he's Clint Mathis for God sake.he looses his concentration while play is still going on . Clint shut the F up already.over all i think this will be a MUCH better team than last years. no question about it ,the Metros are getting it together !

I agree that he needs to shut up, BUT I think he actually got two calls as a result, at least the first yellow card.

Much better than last season... I was actually in a good mood after this loss instead of the bad moods of last seasons abortion.

ricardo clark's debut was enough to make me optimistic. moreno and mathis up top with some decent service will be good, face it. slow, but skilled, fine finishers.

this was the first match of an expansion team for god's sake. is hope already dead?

and who is so damn talented on the crew if we don't have any talent on our side? what, mcbride? he's a fine players, but clint is still the most talented and creative player in the league, despite all of his problems. who knows, he might not get back to where he was, but don't try and tell me he isn't talented.

i hate sounding like a cheerleader, but those are just facts. but moreno, clark, guevara, macgee eventually, there is talent there.
