It is a three team race right now, but Shenzhen has a match in hand on Beijing and Dalian.
Any updates on the Jia B. A Canadian (Tony Menezes) is playing for Gansu Nonken. I think Gansu are really struggling this year.
Gansu is last in their division right now. The good news for them is there is no relegation this year.
Here's the latest round of results. China League Round 25 Results Beijing Guoan 4 Tianjin Taida 1 Sichuan Dahe 3 Chongqing Lifan 1 Yunnan Hongta 1 Shanghai Zhongyuan 1 Shenzhen Pingan 0 Shanghai Shenhua 0 Dalian Shide 1 Shenyang Jinde 0 Shanxi Guoli 0 Shandong Luneng 1 Although shenhua are having a crap year, they are proving to be a nuisance for top teams like Dalian and shenzhen.
Shenhua keeps doing this to the top teams, perhaps Luneng will have a chance to get back in this thing.
Top teams in the table as of right now Beijing Guoan 46 points on 24 matches Dalian Shide 45 points on 24 matches Shenzhen Pingan 44 points on 23 matches Shandong Luneng 37 points on 23 matches Seems like a three horse race at this point with Beijing having the edge in points, but Shenzhen still has a match in hand. All three of the top teams would have to falter for Shandong to get back in this race, but Luneng has a match in hand on Beijing and Dalian. Beijing and Dalian have six matches remaining, while Shenzhen and Shandong have seven matches left.
Tony is a solid defender. I really like him while he was playing for Canada. Too bad Gansu is struggling this year, but luckily there's no demotion this year in Jia B.
Either way, the true historical and cultural meaning requires considerably more explanation that a simple translation would provide.
A poll on CCTV.com has shenzhen and dalian in a dead heat as for predicting who will win Jia A. Shenzhen Pingan 38.55% Dalian Shide 38.33% Beijing Guoan 23.12% You can partake of this poll (Chinese only, sorry) by clicking this link. http://www.cctv.com/sports/index.shtml
Sunday's fixtures Chinese Army v. Yunnan Shandong v. Beijing Shenhua v. Liaoning Zhongyuan v. Sichuan Shenyang v. Shenzhen Tianjin v. Dalian Chongqing v. Qingdao Shandong can make up three points on Beijing in its effort to bet back in this thing with a win, but I wouldn't count on Dalian or Shenzhen surrendering any points this weekend.
Results Chinese Army 1:0 Yunnan Shandong 2:1 Beijing Shenhua 1:0 Liaoning Zhongyuan 2:1 Sichuan Shenyang 1:1 Shenzhen Tianjin 0:1 Dalian Chongqing 1:1 Qingdao It is still a three team race with Shandong trying to get back in it in fourth. Dalian 48 points on 25 matches Beijing 46 points on 25 matches Shenzhen 45 points on 24 matches SHANDONG 40 points on 24 matches Shenzhen and Shandong have a match in hand on Dalian and Beijing. Next weeks fixtures: Beijing v. Shanxi Liaoning v. Shenyang in the battle of Shenyang City Dalian v. Shandong - big match for both Qingdao v. Zhongyuan Shenzhen v. Tianjin Sichuan v. Chinese Army Yunnan v. Shenhua Shandong has another chance to help themselves if they can take a win from league leaders Dalian. Beijing has a pretty easy fixture against Shanxi. Shenzhen also has a pretty routine seeming match against Tianjing. Then again, they blew some points yesterday. SHANDONG DUI - JIA YOU!!!
This is actually turning out to be an exciting season, although there is no relegation the race at the top of the table is as close as you can get. Dalian's domination of the league was getting pretty boring in the last few years. Why do all the Chinese leagues only have one or two good teams. In basketball, it was a two team race for the last few years between Chinese army and the Shanghai oriental sharks. Now no one will go to the matches cuz the biggest draw cards are warming the bench in America.
I think Shandong is the only one who has been able to break in lately and take a title from Dalian. Shandong may have an outside shot at this one (I can hope, right?)
What do you mean SOMETIMES?!? WHen I was there, I heard it all the time on the Chinese media. I was so happy when Shandong burst their bubble by winning the double in 1999, something that Dalian couldn't even do despite their dominance of Chinese soccer.
The remaining matches are very even. The four contenders will play against each other..... only Shenzhen and Dalian do not play against each other. Dalian -- Shandong, Shanxi, Beijing Shandong -- Dalian, Shenzhen, Liaoning, Yunnan Shenzhen -- Tianjin, Shandong, Shanxi, Beijing Beijing -- Shanxi, Dalian, Shenzhen. The champion will control its destiny. As for me.... being from the South, I think Shenzhen should be my team, but I hate the city of Shenzhen. So I do not have a team to support.
This season is boring. Both of the two Shanghai teams can’t make it into the top five, and I had so much optimism for Shenhua at the beginning of the seasons. The only thing to look forward to is the schadenfreude (just learn the word) from Dalian’s fall.
Hey, at least the two Shanghai teams are in the top flight of teams. Whatever happened to the two Guangzhou teams?
The Guangzhou teams suck. Guangzhou is where I'm from. Actually there were 3 GZ teams. GZ TaiYangShen, GZ CongRi and GuangDong HongYuan(their stadium was located in GZ, so I considered them as a GZ team). I think it was like 5 years ago, they were all competed in the Jia A. Then I didn't follow the Jia A for quite a long time. When I came back to check how my teams doing, guess what happened? They have disappeared. I couldn't find their names on both the Jia A and Jia B tables. What a mystery!!! Can someone tell me whatever happaned to them? I guess they have been eaten by monsters. GZ TaiYangShen used to be one of the best team in Jia A, and the GZ teams used to contribute some players(unlike the northeren players, our players are usually short but very skillful) to the NT. But now, it would surprise me if any GZ players make the NT squad. shenhua and topcow are lucky, at least there are 2 shanghai teams still survive in the Jia A. Shi+, I got no team to support. Hey, I love to see any team to overturn the Dalian dynasty.
