Its too bad the game is in Miami... following the huge disappointment of USA vs. Canada i really wish they could have scheduled the game in RFK or Mass... maybe cali.. but i guees miami is where its going to be... hope the crowd isnt a typical sub 10 k like canada... since its on ESPN2..
i doubt it....it is argentina so expect a pro argie crowd...and 6-7k of US supporters...the game vs. canada simply showed the US Fanbase in south florida.....which i expect will be at US v Arg... i wasn't there, but i assume most, if not all, people at the US vs Can game were there supporting US.... and thanks for the feedback sachin...see you there..... now, can we decide on a meeting place? or tailgate time? or anything?
i'm going to the match and will be in Miami on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the game. I could scout things out and post what I've found down there, or I could ask the people I'm staying with about a good spot.
i posted this in another place, but i think it bears repeating. Here's an email a friend of mine from miami sent regarding things to do, places to go in miami: "...as far as miami tourist information, im no chamber of commerce but i guess i can give away a few tips and not-so-secret secrets if you want to post the following. getting in around in miami REQUIRES a car (your own, rented, taxi, etc.). the rail system is too limited to be useful and the bus system is too infrequent/unpredictable to be useful. navigation is easy enough with a map, as miami is a nice grid sandwiched between the atlantic and the everglades (but beware of the less friendly idiosyncratic civic planning of areas such as coral gables and coconut grove). of course you can visit any number of websites full of the usual yammer regarding miami's hotspots, from nights you'll never remember in south beach to more family friendly affairs; but, here a few of my recommendations... bars to visit: tobacco road (first liquor license ever in miami; old blues/jazz/rock joint)...scotty's (a very florida outdoors boat-dock place on biscayne bay in coconut grove)...the playwright (a pub offering sanctuary from the greasy nightclubs on south beach)...the tavern (small, indie bar in coconut grove; very miami hurricanes)...the gables pub & the bar (two smaller locals-type bars in coral gables) for all you indie rockers, you might be able to catch a decent late show on the weekends at revolver (a mod lounge w/ a variety of music -- depends on what color room youre in), churchill's (punk bar where every single world cup game was shown on a large screen), or poplife (a saturday night hangout for the revolver people) lastly, if you do outdoors things, you might want to check out the everglades, big cypress, key biscayne, or the beaches (north, south, or middle...depending on your flava) have fun and leave your attitude at home b/c you'll find plenty of it here!"

to us supporters and sam's army folks, how are we all going to congregate and stake out our endzone turf? i've never sat with any of you guys at a game and have never met any of you in person, but i want to sit with you guys.

Guinness anyone? I'll be hitting South Beach around noon on Friday and will make my way to The Playwright (an Irish Bar in South Beach) for a few cocktails after dinner. If anyone is around and wants to tell lies and disseminate misinformation, c'mon down. I'm staying at the Hotel Henry with the Screaming Eagles crowd who did all the leg work in getting a hotel. Also, props to Sacchin for the efforts on getting a group of tix for the US supporters...I got the feeling it's gonna be a very pro-Argie crowd. I was thinking the other day, however, how far the crowds for US games have come (and how improved the lads are). Before the World Cup in '94 we tied Moldava in Jacksonville, FLA before 6,000 and then a week or so later lost 2-1 to Iceland before...3,000! See everyone there. Let's send the Argies home with a banger. Gooooooo Yanks!
I recommend the South Beach Art Deco Archectural Tour. My sister and I did that a couple of years ago while we naively dropped my teenage son off at South Beach. And by the way, my son recommends South Beach.
Pre-game tailgate meeting area Here's the info I got from the Orange Bowl stadium folks on pre-game prior to the Saturday noon ET kickoff: * Parking lots open at 10am * Gates open into the stadium at 10:30am Although Orange Bowl has stated 10am, I think there's a strong possibility that the USA vs. Honduras @ RFK scenario may occur again, with fans' cars packing the Orange Bowl streets early, jamming downtown traffic to the point that officials will have no choice but to open the lots early to relieve the congestion. I figure all interested parties can meet at lot W3 like the most recent USA vs. Colombia match. It's on the same side as the end zone sections the Screaming Eagles and La Norte are shooting for and the section B that we might have to settle for if the stewards follow their typical pattern of keeping the end zone sections shut until absolutely necessary. The parking area is also of good size and far enough away from the stadium that it won't be filled quite as quickly. I have been to SoBe several times, however, and it's not far to walk anywhere even for the dumpy crew that calls itself fans of USA MNT. Their phone is 305.534.0667. Change of Plans!!! A local contacted me and offered up another plan. Sounds like a winner. Sports Cafe near 5th and Washington is an Italian restaurant with owners (Paolo and Graziani?) who used to be involved with the USL team and are huge soccer fans. Apparently, good food, brew and soccer on the tube. Around the corner (16th and Alton) is The Abbey which is being touted as the best place for beer in Miami. Possibly din din at the Sports Cafe Friday night and then a nightcap at The Abbey (unless there really is good soccer on the tellie....i.e. Not Mexican League....ouch!). For those of us staying with the the Screaming Eagles/La Norte, Sport Cafe is perfect, as it appears to be next door. I'm a go, until somebody mentions some place better.
i don't care where we go. i'm already here (made the 800+ mile drive today.) i will try to maybe check out some of those places on thursday and report back (don't know how feasible that is though.) anyway, anybody feel free to PM me and i will give the phone number where i am. i am staying at friend's place that is in school down here.
Orange Bowl new parking lot opening time I called the Orange Bowl stadium this morning...they will now be opening the parking lots at 8am on Saturday morning instead of 10am as originally scheduled. I look forward to seeing y'all there!

SoBe follow-up The Sports Cafe on Washington in South Beach is an excellent soccer venue. Really fantastic Italian food. Soccer on the tube. Nice place with open air dining/drinking. The Argentinian Nat'l team ate there after the match and Bruce Arena and some others came later for food. It's a true gem for soccer fans living in or visiting South Beach. Soccer is always on the tube. Prices, for SoBe, are very good especially in light of the quality of the food. The Playwright is another option for soccer. It is also on Washington. EPL games in the AM and they were advertising an international friendly for later with a cover charge. Not quite your typical Irish pub...but kind of a SoBe-Dublin meshing. FYI, the Abbey is a bit of a (drunken) walk from the heart of SoBe, but well worth it for the beer. Crowd was decent, too. Then again, the crowd everywhere in SoBe is good! As far as the Hotel Hank (er, Henry)...well, it was a flop house. I'd always heard that expression in the past and now I know what it means. Total dump. Eh, live and learn.
