...Surgery in the air print shirts and southern accents cigars and big hair... And this from MLS Confidential: "The Copa Carnaval/MLS doubleheader at the Orange Bowl Wednesday was a bust. About 60 fans showed up." Oh yeah. That's why MLS left Miami. ...some places are like your auntie but there's no place like Miami My Mammy...
You all wish you can live in miami for 1 day! I know we don't have MLS fans but we do have the best weather in the country,Nicest beaches and clubs. And we also have the most beautiful ladies in the world, ladies that makes u go back to your country town and sit in your car all day thinking and playing . "Don't hate... Just Congratulate"!! Miami is the place!!
Congratulations Big Baller, Miami is clearly a pretty great place for some people, they just don't happen to be diehard soccer fans.
They did! There was around 300-400 maximum. I was really disappointed to see that but OH WELL...the reason we failed to keep our MLS team because south floridians decide it to party and go to strip joints instead of going to the Fusion games(BIG SHAME).Anyways it was kinda good that only 400 people went to the game because LA galaxy showed a very poor picture of the MLS champs. People were leaving the game 5 mins after the 1st half.It was a very poor performance from both teams but Colorado played alot better.
I love South Beach. Nothing like dancing waitresses at Mango's. I loved going to Shadow Lounge when it was still in existence but Club Space is cool too. One thing though that I always noticed is that hardly any of the women looked really good. Sure they were in bikinis and had toned bodies but not necessarily lookers.
All I know is a couple of the cops in CSI: MIami look pretty darn hot. That blonde ballistics chick. Whew. She could be in the booty pics thread. That said, if the soccer team doesn't speak Spanish - no one cares.
I have a question, and it will bring this thread even further off track. when is tha last time any of you drove through Manhattan. See, in the winter we may get all pastie and pale, but the women up here are ALWAYS in shape. Manhattan has to be the skinniest island in the world. now since they are all slender and in shape, and I swear the average in Manhattan is 25, even the ugly ones are decent. and the prety ones are really really pretty. Now back to soccer. Damn, there are Youth soccer games that draw more spectators than that. Hell when I was like 12 there were several hundred in attendance at the Potsdam Youth Soccer League Championship match. They were treated to seeing my 2 goals under the lights leading the green team to victory over the dreaded red team. Maybe they came out becaue of the high level of play. Maybe they came because they were bored. But you would think that those MLS teams would be able to bring 300 family members and friends. It worked in youth soccer. Actually I attribute that high attendance back in the day to the fact that there was a big name double header. The Yellow team squared of against the popular Blue team in the semifinal match. ok im done now, back to work, but those numbers are just pathetic. hell potsdam only has 10,000 residents. miami has what, 3 million?
Well, clearly: 1) MLS players have no friends or family; 2) None of the players' mommies or daddies had to drive them to the game; 3) You were the Freddy Adu of your generation; or 4) Exhibitions between 20-30 year olds are less cute than exhibitions between 11-12 year olds.
hello bashers here ids the English translation of the Miami Herald (spanish edition ) By the way, Ieca here is the translation, to the best of my abilities: Copa Carnival begins with nostalgia for the Fusion: If Ray Hudson says so it has to be true: The loss of the Fusion was a big mistake which one day must substantiated(whatever that exactly means?). The emotional coach, which now commands DC United, can not avoid the nostalgia when he speaks of the Fusion and expects one day, not too far away, South Florida will regain a premier league team. “We had everything needed to succeed, but it was all too late” Hudson explained. “We had a great team and we were creating a base of loyal fans. Despite that fact, in the first three years the organization commited many mistakes and in the end it made it impossible to overcome.” For Hudson, the basic problems were regarding the finances, in poor proactive vision for the future of the franchise and in the poor job in establishing a relationship with the many communities which the Fusion could have developed its influence. “My aspirations are that one day DC United can play like the Fusion did” explained the English coach. “In few clubs, have I ever seen such chemistry, with footballers of the class of Pablo Mastroeni, Alex Pineda Chacon, Preki... an unique nucleus of players. In spite of it all, the Fusion and the Tampa Bay Mutiny disappeared from Florida without a trace, leaving a vacuum that many question, WHY? “This wasn’t done properly, because nobody can tell me that this area is not fertile ground for the game of futbol” Hudson indicated. “The aficionado here knows more about futbol than anywhere else in the rest of the nation, and they want quality. Therefore they deserve a team in Miami, not in Fort Lauderdale(I can’t believe he said this, he must be reading my posts!). They have no team, but at least MLS returns to Miami with four preseason exhibition matches in the Copa Carnival, which is part of the one of the largest latin festivals in the country. Unfortunately, this is not a sign that MLS may be considering the city for a future franchise. After the first expansion year of 1998 -when the Fusion became the league’s 12th team-, MLS has proclaimed the six finalist urban areas for which the league will consider for expansion in 2005. Miami was not included. Seattle, Houston, Cleveland, Tulsa, Rochester, and Portland will be on the final ballot wjere MLS will choose the two winners. Miamians will have to wait sitting for the next opportunity. “We are all sad about what happened here , but it was a necessary evil”, explained Carlos Giron, director of Hispanic communications for MLS. “We have to be very clear the league can not ignore Miami and we expect cups like this one will become a tradition”. In the first part of the doubleheader in the Orange Bowl yesterday , the Dallas Burn defeated the MetroStars 3-0, and in the second match the Colorado Rapids defeated 3-0 the defending champs, the Los Angeles Galaxy, in exhibitions for the upcoming eighth MLS season which will begin April 5th. The Copa will culminate on Saturday with matches between the Columbus Crew and DC United- the later team with the veteran Bulgarian striker Hristo Stoichkov-, and the Chicago Fire versus the San Jose Earthquakes. Organizers, which report last nights crowd at 4,000, expect a significant crowd in attendance for Saturdays matches, which will conclude with a concert featuring the famous Venezuelan performer Oscar DeLeon. some of you sFloridaPhobics, are consistent.. in beeing ignorant and wrong l
4000 at the OB 4000 Ray "it was a MISTAKE to CONTRACT the FUSION" http://www.miami.com/mld/elnuevo/sports/soccer/5325853.htm Just as we said THE BLUNDERS murdered the FUSION. VINDICATION is sweet have nice day & Good night
Wow - even for mere exhibition matches they try to artificially boost attendance by holding a concert. That's just sad.
Its not sad at all. Its great. Miami, Minneapolis, Tulsa, Edmond - are there any others? - are all trying to woo MLS with exhibitions. May the best cities win! Plus, these were Thursday matches. Lets wait through the weekend before passing judgement. And FWIW, I think Hudson was spot on w/ his remarks about the So Fla market.
But inflating attendance for an exhibition with a concert removes the chance to actually gauge the potential soccer support. If the idea is just entertainment, without actually looking at the locale as a future expansion, then it's fine. But if the purpose of the exhibition is to test the waters, then it's a wasted opportunity.
1. maybe you are right. but maybe their parents just dont love them enough to drive to their games. 2. I bet some of them droped them off at the bus though. 3. Well, we all get lucky at different times in our lives. Sadly I peaked at 12. It didnt hurt that I was already 5'10 4. more likely it was that a championship game doubleheader is higher billing than an exebition of older guys. 5. Maybe soccer has lost popularity in the 16 years since that youth game. you never know? Bla Bla Bla
