My guess is they settled in Broward because they knew there would be less resistance. Imagine after the long delays and political BS just finding a stadium site and then suddenly they introduce the idea of looking for another site for the training facility. Just more fighting and politicking. Broward pushed through this without much of an issue.

So when is construction supposed to start for this stadium in Fort Lauderdale that is supposed to open in 10-11 months?
I couldn't possibly be more skeptical that this will happen.

Nobody can say. There’s some litigation going on that isn’t getting much pub.

I thought Jorge Mas didn't want any part of the Overtown project.

The article alludes to this but this feels like a maneuver to comply with MLS deadlines. Keep the process moving until there are players in kits. Then reverse course and focus on Melreese

Could this just be a leverage play in relation to Melreese? Or maybe them just purchasing the final piece of the parcel to then develop it into something unrelated (I read something about housing)...

A combined 13,000 temporary and permanent jobs will be created through the project, with employees being paid $15 per-hour living wage -- almost double the state required minimum wage of $8.46.

Just looking at this Ft. Lauderdale (Strikers :)) stadium project, I can't help but think or ask why Beckham couldn't have done this sooner? I mean he has gone back and forth with Miami and the league on the team and stadium and now he goes the Ft. Lauderdale? Couldn't he have done this back in 2014? I mean start there and negotiate a stadium deal with Miami later on or at the same time?

My guess is that they never dreamed it would take this long nor did the imagine they and all the other sports venues would be adverserial.

I remember him reading back in 2015 or 16 that he was facing major obstacles with the Miami deal. So much so that he was appearing with a Las Vegas group and there was much speculation Beckham would switch to that town as an expansion team.

this city sucks, always the same crap. Always been a big damn problem to get anything decent setup here, bunch of clowns everywhere crying over everything. Very proud of the man for pulling through, anyone else would have said screw it and gone anywhere else. Its always been the same thing here

Had they gone with Lockard earlier I believe that the city would have been even more difficult than they already have been. They would have seen it as the team already has a place to play and they would put up enough red tape to eventually make the teams temporary home permanent and then they wouldn't need to build a new stadium.

Seige member is saying that the FL stadium will exactly like the Vancouver Temporary stadium they used their first year in the MLS.. In other word modular that won't take anytime to erect.

Or the city was trying to unload property they didn't want to pay to clean up.

It's definitely seemed that way for a while. Given Miami's actions throughout the process, I'm pretty certain that's definitely part of it.

By shutting down all the preferred alternatives, they could have steered Team Beckham to that site.

I guess it's a good thing they are making all of those improvements to Lockhart. They might be playing there longer than they initially expected. Miami Fusion, anyone?
