I just came over here to post this... Holiday weekend, gotta get your live soccer fix... This is a tune-up match for both teams b4 the first match of the Clausura season this spring. Given that these types of events are and will continue to be the salvation for MLS owners/venues, it's important to support for-profit soccer in the Bay Area. Club America at least no longer is The Villain for Bay Area soccer, and is apparently the most popular Mexican team in the Bay Area. From the capital city, known for its foreign players; has several guys that will represent Mexico in Germany and prolly a couple of guys for other nations as well. (Hard to keep track w/ the musical chairs that is Mexican futbol.) Atlas is the 2nd most popular team (?; Tecos of la Universidad is the other team) in Guadalajara, behind Chivas of course. Nicknamed Toros, fans constantly make references to bullfighting, lots of "Ole's", etc. Prolly the funniest fans I've ever heard in my life, at least the guys that were sitting behind us for the Interliga game a few years back. Cheers!
"Given that these types of events are and will continue to be the salvation for MLS owners/venues, it's important to support for-profit soccer in the Bay Area." Bit late for that isn't it? Besides which, who'd bet against the new Houston name being Club America before long.
This could be a very good way to send a message to MLS, though. If you could go to this match and bring a banner, what would it read? I don't think any Quakes fans should attend this match without using it to say something to the league. Banners, jerseys ... I doubt a Section 8-type walkout would be possible, but certainly something.
I think it's a toss-up. Both are very popular. I suspect Chivas is slightly more popular among Mexicans, but CA may have a broader appeal to Central Americans which may be enough to make it more popular overall.
Nope. To begin, for the past 4-5 years, CA has beaten out Chivas in Mexico by 4% in polls w/ a margin of error of 4%. Technically, it could be a tie, but it could be as high as 8%. Given that those numbers have held steady for 4 straight years, it's pretty much a given that CA is more popular amongst the 2 by about 4%. Also, apparently the regional breakdown of Mexicans in the Bay Area makes it more favorable towards CA, or so they say. ('They' being Club America.) Nope. Version 4.0 coming soon. Believe. I doubt it. AEG has said that they are out of the picture. If they were in the picture, they would be there for the launch. Why name it one thing (Apollos or whatever they'll be called) only to have CA come in and re-do the whole thing.
My sweet but somewhat ill-informed wife purchased two tickets for this game because she thought that Club America was the USMNT. Anybody want them? Section 111, Row 16, which is right at midfield according to this stadium chart. Face value including Ticketmaster fees, $112. PM me and we can work out the details.
Sweet is right, your a damn lucky man! (Had the 'Quakes not been moved I would have been in serious negotiations with my wife over another year of season tickets... I'd still rather have had to do the battle though )
I 'm kind of wishing I hadn't started this thread. Since I did start it can I make a request of the mods to **** can it?
I fixed it. Here are the rules: 1) This is a thread about real live professional soccer being displayed in San Jose. 2) That is all this thread it about. 3) Any personal stuff or whining will be canned.
