Rugby is huge in South Africa ... and now there's a Hollywood movie about how South Africa won the World Cup, great. But anyway, they will probably be hosting some other big regional and international rugby events. They have a strong rugby league and domestic football is very popular, too. Maybe an African Cup of Nations? You always hope there are some long term positive externalities from infrastrucutre investment and development. I say hope becasue I never trust studies on that type of thing. The thing is South Africa already had decent infrastructure so additional investment and development might be skewed towards the event and not long term economic needs. But really, nowadays every country seems to have a crazy deficit and South Africa is probably no different. There must certainly be job creation benefits currently as the final touches are being made. I mention the deficit because it could lead to inflation and weakend currency hurting foreign investment ... BUT, the South African Rand is buoyed by high commodity prices in general and gold in particular. Gold is at historic highs. So, they're holding with a strong currency and they'll get that shot in the arm during the event, but there could be a bit of a hangover. Ultimately, I think things will turn out well for South Africa. The games with African sides in the WC are going to be insane ... I'm going to go buy some lottery tickets.

Lloyd Doyley has just scored his debut goal for Watford. He joined them in 1999 and it was scored in his 269th game for them [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP_r_p7lls4"]YouTube- Lloyd Doyley v QPR[/ame]
Don't get me wrong ... I'll probably go see it (and I never go to movies), but I guess I just don't trust Hollywood to handle it well. I do like the actors and director, so maybe I am being too harsh and not giving it a chance.
Robin HOod with Kevin Costner I think was fine..but oh well...this is getting out of hand..next year we'll start hearing about Lord of the Rings remakes...or like in the simpsons episode, Baby Watchmen lol
Every time I see Vilar play I get reminded of... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtdWICOAzVw"]YouTube- Atlante vs New England Revolution - Federico Vilar Slaps Jey Heaps[/ame]
LOL I remember people on the US boards showing outrage at Vilar's comments about the US being "a dangerous country" or something to that effect. Dude's badass though, that save on Ibra's shot today was awesome.
Chile y Argentina jugaran amistotos contra El Salvador I guess they want to see how strong Honduras is, since it's on their group.. ..
I hate how dumbass journalists are putting down Atlante for supossedly playing "cowardly" yesterday. Have they not watched Barca play since Pep took over? Have they not seen the likes of Chelsea and Inter put everyone behind the ball? Have they not seen Barca have possession of the ball for 77% of the game in their last Champions game against Dynamo in Kiev? And now you want some of the lowest payed players in Mexico to not sit back on Barca Are they out of their mind F'n Niembro and Kloss were saying that Estudiantes wasn't Atlante yesterday because of the way Atlante played. Pfft, even if Estudiantes pulls off the upset on Saturday it will be like Sao Paulo or Internacional pulled it off. Score on a counter and hold on defensively and hope for some luck. Thats what Atlante tried to do but just couldn't do it because they never play like that, they don't know how. Ask Juande Ramos what happens to you when you try to play Barca straight up.
