Game ended up being a foul fest and of all people Andrade came up big several times. Monterrey is in a decent position, though they’ll have to beat urawa who will have no pressure, and Japanese teams have historically been tough for liga mx teams. A lot will depend on river - inter, and thanks to the foul fest River will be missing the entire midfield that started vs Monterrey lol
Watching Montiel play vs Madrid, y’all are crazy imo the kid is special and way better than gutierrez
Honduras can at least send some players to play abroad, meanwhile El Salvador is trying to use local league guys who play at the speed of turtles. When our best player is the youngster who plays over in LA as compared to your “seasoned vets” that’s a problem.
Disagree there. Teams like Mexico, US and Canada at least make sense in a WC context. They have the talent to at least make it past the group stage or make things somewhat difficult to the better teams. The current versions of Honduras and El Salvador are cannon fodder. Are there to be destroyed. The WC doesn't need those kind of teams.
Considering their man advantage and better familiarity with that kind of weather, Pachuca tiring out first was just embarrassing.
Guti tore through the league immediately. Comparing them would be more complicated than that but the difference between his mark on the team and Montiel's in their first 2 years is huge.
There are rumors that Martinez might sell Leon this year. I guess there's a timeline (idk by fifa or the fed or who) that forced their hand by 2027. I didn't know about it. But they might just sell it this year since they obviously could use some money for Oviedo.

I guess the main difference is Montiel has excelled at the international level now, he played great in the intercontinental cup and so far in the club World Cup. Been too long for me to remember if guti played against any meaningful club competition outside of CONCACAF (former club World Cup maybe?) but I recall him always being underwhelming for the national team
I just hope he goes to Europe to at least try, as well as Ruiz. If both of them are playing in la liga there’s a significantly greater chance players like Charly won’t make it to the World Cup as vasco has made it clear these guys need to be playing in Europe
Ajax and Sporting Lisbon are already after Montiel. Let's see if someone goes after Marcel (and if Toluca accepts offers).

I think back then there was far better competition on the NT. I don't remember him being on the team right away. He got on there after his streak was over. I still buy that Montiel could be a better player but it's worth remembering Guti and Chucky became top 5 Liga MX players their first year. Hector Herrera had a bad first season in mexico, and actually only got on the team bc he played the game of his life when Pachuca did a one-game scout of their academy. I think it was Efrain Flores that ordered that. Guti and Chiquito both got on the pro squad bc they lit up the U20 in playoffs after barely playing during regular season. That's IMO the real argument for playing Libertadores. It's really hard to know what their level is unless they're playing several different things. Some dudes are tailor-made for Liga MX.
